    I did it in a Yaris the first time and failed.

    Second time I did all my lessons in the same car and on the day of the test the instructor shows up with a Fiesta. Passed though so everything worked out.

    Instructors car was a opel corsa, failed in that (years ago).

    Did it again last year in my own 1.6 Focus and passed. Whatever you're daily drive is, is the best i think within reason!

    An old model 97 clio got me through the test.
    Great little car actually. Bastard to drive, no power steering, no ABS afaik, Clutch was the hardest thing I have ever driven. Really made you learn how to drive well having a car that's quirky to drive.

    I passed in my own car, which I still drive. Its a 01 Yaris and I love it.

    Mercedes A class. Technically failed first time, insurance disc had my English reg number on it and I never even thought to change it! So failed before I even sat in the car....but passed a week later! :)

    You didn't fail - the test was abandoned! While I realise that it amounts to the same thing for you at least you can honestly say you passed first time!

    97 Toyota Starlet ... passed 1st time.
    Recently upgraded to a 05 Corolla ... sad times leaving the old Starlet behind ... but this new fangled power steering lark is starting to ease the greiving :p

    A 98 VW Polo, not an easy car to master, for sure, but it provided me with some important context - the instructors cars in my area were all really simplified cars with high powered diesel engine (almost impossible to stall the engines), power steering and simplified gearboxes in a
    1 3 5
    2 4 R
    arrangement.

    A 1L Volkswagen petrol fired car, on the other hand, requires much better clutch/accelerator control, dramatically more skill using the
    R == 1 3 5
    . == 2 4
    gearbox and no power steering means that with proper instruction you quickly get the feel for a good turning maneuvere.

    4th time lucky :}

    14 year old corolla saloon. quite long for the turnabout, and very bouncy over ramps, but solid enough..

    Passed it in my toyota avensis 1.6, first time. 1999 reg
    i did it in my car, as im fairly tall, and dont feel comfortable in a smaller car. plus i was driving it for a year or 2 before the test, so i was well used to that car.

    1st & 2nd tries in the instructors Micra
    3rd attempt in my own car - Nissan Bluebird 1.8GLX - Passed!

    I had a Suzuki Swift before the Nissan, but the general concensus was I would never pass the test in it. it only had 3 cylinders so sounded like you were in the wrong gear all the time!
