CIMA certificate

    Folks

Have some time on my hands and am thinking of doing the CIMA cert (I have an IT and General Management background).

Has anyone done these exams via self study? If so how did they find them (from a non accountant perspective). While not an accountant myself I have worked extensively with them down the years and have a good understanding of the basics. Ideally I would like to get one or two of the more straight forward modules done asap and then spend more time on the ones that would need some study

    Any help much appreciated

Although I was exempt from Certificate myself (as I took accounting in DIT) I beleive the new module for Certficate Level is fairly easy and extremely passable even for non accounting backgrounds.

Maybe give CIMA themselves a call and speak with the student welfare officer in their Dublin branch. I think her name is Fiona Arnold. I'm sure she can best advise you on your options of whether to take home study or taught courses. Don't have the number off hand, but I'm sure they are in the phone book.

However, my advice is to probably do some level of taught courses as the managerial stage (following certificate level) of exams is tough enough and you would need a reasonable level of accounting experience.

    Hope this helps?
