Paulie Hyland - A Star in the making?

I'm struggling to understand why paul Hyland isn't getting more recognition after the Callaghan fight. I thought this was an accomplished performance and considering the opponent one of the most promising displays by an Irish boxer all year!

    Am I missing something???

    Very true Paul did great,

That said I feel Andrew Murray deserves more credit, a very good up and coming fighter.....

Yes but Andrew Murray does get more credit. He has been shown on RTÉ a few times aswell, although not enough really considering he's on a lot of their televised cards.

Paulie will get the attention he deserves soon enough, he'll probably make the European rankings when they come out later this month and from there he should rise up the rankings pretty quickly. He was already ranked #13 in the EU before beating the #12 Callaghan and all it will take for him to spring up the rankings is a few wins over the French(Bouaita, Kaya) or Italian(Mora, Trotta, Bartolozzi) fighters in the rankings.

He's fighting on his father's card next month at the Citywest hotel and it's good that he's being kept active. I suppose one reason he hasn't received much attention is that he hasn't really been on tv except for the Callaghan fight which was on TV3 and not that well advertised.

There is his fight in the stadium before the Callaghan bout.

He's not the best to be honest, like a low class dunne.

Rush Boxing club and Rush Martial Arts head coach.

Yes Big Ears Murray does receive a bit of attention from Rock and Dowling and co in the studio. I wish he got more though, but thats being greedy. No disrespect to his potential opponent Fagan and his fans which there are numerous, but I hope he gets a good impressive victory.

I cant believe he is ranked 16th in Europe by box rec, even as a Murray fan I dont believe he's done enough to be that high, but trust me he is more than good enough to get a lot higher.

Do you think Paul Hyland is being held back by his father in the respect that he always seems to fight on his cards naturally enough, should he not be let loose and fight more on Brian Peter's card as there is more of them?? He's only fought on one of Peter's cards, and all his show’s are on RTE which gets decent viewing figures

Well boxrec has a computerised ranking which isn't the most accurate so that's why Andy is so high there. I'm really looking forward to Murray v Fagan, it could really be the making(or breaking) of a young star and given a small bit more time it could be a big fight here.

At this stage I don't think Paulie is being held back, I would have liked to see him be more active over the last few years but that probably couldn't be helped till recently. I think one more bill with his father and after that he's got to start really stepping it up. It would probably be most beneficial for him to go with Brian Peters where he can be put into the right match ups in front of a wider viewing audience.

However at the moment Peters is starting to get a name for quite a few of his fighter so unless he increases the number of cards he has(which he does seem to be doing) Paulie could find himself in danger of being tucked away on undercards and away from a tv audience.

Maybe it would be a good idea to stick with TV3 for a year where he will be a headliner and he can possibly make a bit of a name for himself that way and he probably wouldn't be forced to commit to either TV3 or Tommy Egan. Egan wouldn't have that many shows so if he was doing that he would have to continue fighting on his father's cards just to stay active. Then after that's done he could negotiate a deal with Peters in a much better position not only to gain better money but to be used by Peters in a more prominent role.

One thing Paulie does have on his side is that he is a very good ticket seller.

That's my view as well, looks to have the same strengths and weaknesses as Dunne. i.e. good speed and boxing ability but on the minus side looks prone to showboating, and physically doesn't look the strongest, also doesn't seem to have much power.

For me Dunne is a good bit better in terms of speed and ability. Their respective amateur achievements alone would indicate that. I think Dunne is also a bigger puncher. The only thing we don't know about yet with Hyland is his chin, hopefully that will turn out to be a bit better that Dunne's but even still I don't think he's as good a fighter.

His defense is also similar to Dunne's(or at least the way Dunne's was) where it is based around reflexes and head movement preventing the target from being hit rather that covering the target.

He is very much like a Dunne mark II and I don't think he carries much power.
However he's only 23 and should improve and if that chin is sturdy he should get to the top of European level at least. He did a much better job on Callaghan than Pickering did, although nowhere near as good as Munroe.
