    Hi everyone!

A few friends and I are heading to San Fran in October, and planning on renting a car to see Vegas, LA, Grand Canyon, Yosemite. :D .....(any other suggestions lol?!)

The 'usual' car hire companies are at the airport, but we have an under 25 driver, and an additional driver, and we're trying to get the best rate - anyone know a company where we won't be paying too much for these extras?

When I used to rnet cars when I was under 25, I used to do it through www.skycars.ie

Never a problem. Website is ok for comparing prices accross companies who rent to under 25's.

www.novacarhire.com is also an Irish company that will check companys offering carhire to under 25s.

Dollar offer free second-driver rates on some of their cars.

By the way, spend the extra money and get a convertible. We did San Fran/Yosemite/Death Valley last year and Grand Canyon/Veges/LA/San Fran this year and both times we rented a convertible which makes the *world* of difference IMO :)

I'm doing that exact trip next week! We're starting in LA then Grand Canyon - Vegas - Yosemite and flying home from San Fran. Couple of long drives in there, but don't really mind, we've plenty of good cd's packed! That was all we could manage in our 16 nights, but you could start in SF, take a drive down the coast to LA and then follow the rest of your route. Hope you have a great time, I for one can't wait - been planning this trip for nearly a year!

It's up to you but you have to decide what you mean by *better*.

We got a convertible for 11 days for about €350. Drive through the desert with the roof down and the air-con on and you'll see what I mean :)

You're going to be driving around the USA for weeks. The car IMHO is almost the most important element. Get something big and comfortable rather than skimping on the cash. Why save a couple of hundred bucks if it means not being comfortable for hours on end everyday?

I've taken a similar trip in California and was under 25 at the time. We stayed at the HI hostel (City Centre) on Ellis Street and there's an Enterprise car rental place on the same street.
If you say you are staying in the HI hostel they waive the under 25 fee which makes all the difference if you are going for any length of time. I also reccommend that hostel too, central to everything and has really nice rooms.
