    Hi Seres,

I did it last year, my first tri, and it is a nice swim in the lake, with a slightly hilly 23k cycle around the lake, and then a nice run through the forest.

I must admit, I did not do enough training for the swim last year, and I found it hard, but that was my fault, and I had one of the Lidl short wetsuits which is not the easiest to swim in. As a veteren of a few more this year, I can safely say it is a good one to start with. I am doing it again this year, so I might see you there.

    Hey Seres,

Thats fantastic news. Im also taking part in the Lough Key Forest Park Traithlon. And its my first time too.
Im really excited about doing it and a bit nervous as well.
I know everything will be fine. I just want to get started...
I know once i get the swim out of the way i will be able to relax.
How strict are they about the 30 minute time limit for the swim?
I can swim 30 lenghts of a pool in 24 minutes so im hoping i will be ok.

most irish triathlons are pretty good about cut offs. So long as you are not in trouble and continue to make forward progress, it would be very unusual for someone to be pulled from a swim.

Ciaran , it probably wont take you 24min to complete the 750m , i know in the pool it was taking me 21 min to do the 750m but in the ow it takes me around 15min , with a wet suit you are alot faster . Try and get a swim or 2 in the ow before the day because ow is alot different to the pool

good luck , sure who knows mayb we will cross paths there :D

Cheers Seres. This discussion has helped me alot. Ive done a few open water swims in a lake close to home but never in a wet suit. I think this Thursday I will give it a go. And practice getting out of the wet suit too.
    That could be tricky!
Did anyone hear if registration happening on Friday evening as well.

I find OW much easier with the wetsuit too. Get some Johnsons Baby Oil for your ankles and shoulders to get the suit off easier ;) I did that for the first time yesterday and it helped a lot

Dont know , but i can find out for you today , i know one of the organisers , oh just one more thing regarding the wetsuit , try and get a long tight wetsuit it makes a big difference - up till last week i had a short wetsuit that was too big for me , then i got a long one that fitted me and as soon as i got in to the water i noticed the difference( so bouyant) , also all my fellow swimmers commented on my improved speed :D ( still pretty slow though )

That would be great if you could do that. I though i heard somewhere that they might open registration on Friday to help ease congestion on race day.
My wet suit is a full length one and is a good fit. So all i need now is a good tail wind and i can float my way to the finish. :)

CIARANc33 , SORRY it has taken so long to get back to you ( my source of information was slow on the return ) but if you dont already know you can register the night before from 7 to 8 in the forest park , take care and good luck:D

Thank you. :) Im just after checking the website and i downloaded the Race Brief. Im undecided as yet but I might wait until the morning to register.
I have to travel about one hour to Lough Key so it might be the easiest thing to do.
Any last minute advice on transitions. I dont think i'll panic to much. I'll just take as long as is needed.
