Repeating - how does it work?

How does repeating the leaving cert work?

Do you repeat 6th year or just your exams? Do you have too do it in another school? I think there is a fee of €250 also, is this correct?

What if you wanted to repeat say 3 subjects? And saw in those 3 in end up getting 150 points. Would those 150 points be added onto your other 3 subjects or would you have to use what you orginally got.

If anyone could answer some or all of these questions, I would really appreciate it. Thank you. :)

You can just sit the exams if you want, and not repeat 6th year.

You can repeat 6th year in your current school or a different school. You can do the exams in whichever school agrees to host you.

LC 2008 cost €263 for repeats. It will more than likely cost the same or more for 2009.

Your CAO points are taken from your best 6th results in one LC sitting.

theres specialised 1 year repeat colleges in most major cities in ireland. i'd say they are a better choice because if you go into a normal school they will only cover half the course with you and for english thats no good.

i know a few years ago there used to be queues for the good repeat schools. this year say for example in the cork college of commerce interviews are i think the day after the results so dunno if ther'll be queues or not.

i think the numbers repeating are down on a few years ago.

you can do it from home as well if you like but risky being so close to the telly. theres another thread on here re repeating from home.

you can ask your old school can you go back to 6th year but i think most people like to move on. repeat schools are a good half-way stop between school and college and very focussed. you dont need to go to the institute to get good results.

i'd say you are pretty close on the fee.

before you could add say 3 subjects from last year and 3 from this year for your points. for a lot of places you can't do that anymore. for points purposes you have to have them all in the one sitting but if you have your eye on a particcular college check with them first. generally now though it's your 6 best subjects in ONE year.

however for marticulation purposes, the minimum requirements, you can say use a D in pass maths from this year in next years application but you can't use it for points.

    confused? :)

if you have your heart set on doing only 3 subjects it would have to be a low points course you are aiming for. but you could use other subjects from this year just to satisfy the minimum entry requirements but not for points.
