    Hi Folks

Looking for a bit of advice

Use NTL broadband, which comes with BB modem and a Wireless router (netgear)

I use voipcheap.com and do not have a landline (eircom etc)

Thinking of buying an ATA on ebay and using my cordless Dect phone
the main ones on sale there are
    Linksys PAP2-NA SIP
    or Grandsteams 286, 386 etc

    Which one is better value

Once I buy th ATA should I connect it to my wireless router or BB modem

One final question,is there a way I can see my voipcheap.com contacts on my phones display or do I just type in their number, would be great if I could omitt the 00353 1 bit

    Thanks

Hi, I'd recommend getting an IP enabled Dect phone like the Siemens C45 IP

A little bit more expensive but would save you alot of hassle.

With the phone joe mentioned you'll be able to adjust the local dialing : to get rid of the 00353.
I suppose that most IP phone will have that option now.

Just a followup on this lads.

Would this be suitable for VoIP over NTL BB - no land line, no internal cablong etc.

I just plug the basestation into the NTL router (netgear wireless router supplied by NTL) and put the handset wherever suits?

    Thanks.

Poor advice. A little but more expensive means that it's at least twice the price of an ATA which is all that you need if you already have a cordless phone. How the IP phone would save you hassle I've no idea.

And JoePC if you're gonna refer people here to your own site you might at least put in the correct link.

Any SIP-compatible device, e.g. ATA, IP Phone will work on pretty much any broadband connection. You just connect them to your router, set them up with your VoIP Provider account details, and then off you go.

bhickey, one final question - do I need a separate ATA with this ...

    Thanks again.

I was just about to post the same question, Can anyone recommend a good, Cheapish ATA adapter to use a DECT phone with it. Will be using a Wireless DECT phone with it.

    Hi SwampThing,

This is a SIP phone, so you don't need an ATA, you need a router though.
You simply need to plug that behind your router and configure the SIP¨settings.

the Linksys ATAs are supposedly good.

However there seems to be a shortage of them of late (last 2 months). This has led to "well known irish voip suppliers" hiking up their prices for these devices. (from about 69 euro to 89 and 99 euro).

What about the Grandstream Handytone 486??

I am using a Grandstream Handytone 486 , set it up with an analog phone and blueface and no issues, I also have it connected to my house alarm and my alarm uses it to ring me if the alarm is activated.
