slightly out of topic. say there was a component out, would it improve picture quality transmitted by the DVR? i'm just asking as i'm not sure how i can get better picture from the box to a HD plasma/lcd unless it's HD transmission via HDMI.

I think it would only matter if the box was 720p (or higher) which it isn't. AFAIK, component will do HD but the box won't. Either way, it doesn't have component.
