Check this out, google just launched this service. You can search what was popular search terms over the last 4 years. I was having a look at ireland and consistently over the last few years the search term google is in the top ten.

Any idea why you would type google into the google search engine, I cant think why you would do a search for google when you are already there!

Carlow, Kilkenny and Sligo search for themselves while Cavan and Leitrim haven't generated enough interest to register at all...

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 545 ✭✭✭BenjAii

I often search "google" from the google task bar in firefox, usually because I want to quickly get to the main page to click on News, Images or Gmail.

I'm guessing that's what it is.

They're still trying to figure out why their new compooters haven't toasted their sandwhich yet.

Is this the most visited websites or most googled topics? The latter i presume. It makes me wonder, who searches for the likes of YouTube? Just type in the obvious YouTube.com i would of thought if you wanted to go on it!

    Meath searches for you

I think I know what this is. in firefox 1.5 when you typed a word into the address bar and pressed enter, it did a "i'm feeling lucky" search, and brought you to the top page.

I have a feeling alot of people typed google into firefox to get the google website, and because they didn't add an http or even a www, firefox treated it as a google query.

This is what happens when you give no formal training to people before they buy computers.

If you use Firefox and type "youtube subject" into the address bar without the comma's and with a relevant subject it'll show you a list of videos for that. It's the same with wikipedia. if you type wiki boards.ie into the address bar in firefox it'll go directly to the boards.ie page in wikipedia.
Firefox uses google to find these pages without going directly to google. :)

Many 'beginners' insist on typing addresses into the search box - gawd knows why, but you see it a lot if you have the pleasure of cleaning up the messes afterwards - I am the millionth visitor and have won a prize??

That's because they're not stupid enough to need Google to find Bebo and YouTube.

nothing interesting comes up when you google google. im oddly disappointed i must say. there are nearly two and half billion hits though which is something!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 19,396 ✭✭✭✭Karoma

"google" is in the top search terms for any country I checked.
I'd imagine it has something to do with people simply typing "google" into the address bar in Firefox.

I'd hope it's the same reason people search for "aib" and "rte".

    PS: <3 IT Crowd.
