Digitalb at 16 degrees E

    Hi all,

I got an installer to align my dish for Digitalb last year (16 degrees E) and on my 80cm dish was able to receive the five sports channels without to many issues (in heavy rain I experienced some break up).

However when the football season ended i didnt really watch anything on the channels, but when i recently re-subscribed and started watching the channels again there is continual break up.

I am looking for some help in tackling the problem:

-Is it due to the 80cm dish and a 100cm dish is required?(why is it impacting now?)
-Is it as a result of a poor receiver(Triax SI 75), when the installer was aligning last year he mentioned that it was very poor.
-Is it just a case of needing to be re-aligned again?

Any help anyone can provide would be appreciated
    (p.s I live in Dublin 18)

maybe im wrong, but it sounds as though your dish has moved slightly, try realignment,or could be an lnb problem, have you tried it with any other reciever?

Greatgoal - Thanks for the reply.

I dont want to move the dish as I have my sky quad off the same dish. And if I could be sure that it was an alignment issue I would book an installer.

Dont have another receiver to test it out.

Personally, I'd suggest getting a bigger dish like the Triax 110cm dish.

Since you're using your Sky quad, I'm assuming you're using the multi-LNB bracket, which doesn't help. 16E is relatively weak, compared to the likes of Hotbird or Astra 1/2.

Greatgoal -Got my card reactivated from the place in the uk that I got the card from last year. Marconi digital - very reliable and good service over the last two years.

Thanks Byte. I am using a multi LNB bracket. If you reckon the larger dish is the way forward I will have to look into it, Herself will love that.....

Would a 110cm dish resolve the issues of poor reception in bad weather?

Very much so. The transponders DigitAlb use are very funny. They seem very weak during even slightest of weather.

a 110 would have a marked reception improvement over the 80. In fact, I had the multi-LNB on a TD78 dish, with 16E in mind, but SuperSport only worked in sunshine. Any hint of rain, and breakup would start (Technomate TM1500 box at the time, whose tuner wasn't that sensitive compared to its successor the TM5400).

Improvements were considerable on teh TD110, however, getting the damn thing peaked can be tedious with Traix's curious slider thing to adjust elevation!

Note that SuperSport transponder is fairly strong compared to the other Digitalb transponders.

Grease it and tighten enough that it doesn't move on it's own, but loose enough it doesn't jerk.

    It's horrid.

A 110cm vs an 80cm is nearly twice the signal actually. An average 110cm can be 4 times the signal of a Sky Dish, about x6 to x8 a Lidl / maplin camper dish.

A 5.6m dish about 150 times a camper dish... mmm taste those microwaves :)

Hmm, maybe grease is the thing to do. Problem I used to find is that one rail would slide but not the other, which naturally had very negative effects on signal levels!

That said, the Triax dish in general is quite hardwearing. It's probably the only decent product they make anymore IMO.

    Anyway, straying offtopic...

Whoever asked about card, I got mine from tunisat.co.uk

Another reputable seller would be Alsat.co.uk who are apparently the main importers of these cards

No Mate I'm on an 88cm Triax & never fails to pull in an 75% signal on Supersports, got my new dish about 3 months ago and initally had breakup but when I put a new lnb on the dish without realligning - I got nearly 10% extra.
