I suffer from trapped wind frequently causing severe abdominal pain - has anyone got any pointers on how to disipate (sp?) it once the pain kicks in?

    I used to too.

Stop drinking fizzy drinks, eating bread and starchy and wheaty things as they tend to exacerbate the problem. Also try laying off some fruits for a while, like apples, as their skin contains a lot of fibre. Stick to things like bananas (as my mam says, 'they bind yih') and oranges. Tomatoes as well tend to have an effect on bowel movements.

Oh, and whenever you need to let wind, do it. Best remedy of all.

You may have irritable bowel syndrome.. have you any constipation or diarrhoea?

Motillium is a good over the counter medication if the pain gets bad.

I'd recommend something like Imogas rather than motilium - motilium is better for feeling full/bloated/belching but once the pain/wind has moved further down the gut I think the effectiveness of motilium is reduced somewhat

You need to discuss this with your GP if it is troublesome for you.
