One of my laptops (HP nx6110) is after dying, theres a problem with the motherboard or something, anyway I took out the hard drive and put it in another laptop (exact same model) to retrieve the data but it wont boot past the HP splash screen. It won't even let me into the bios.

Any idea's on what the problem is?

    Cheers!

If you take the hard-drive out does it boot to bios?

Nope, not a good sign I'm guessing!

Sounds like the hard disc itself is buggered, but as a last chance, why not try putting the the drive into a USB enclosure and then attach it to a healthy laptop?

You might then have more luck in rescuing the data.

I'm gonna try that today, I think one of the lads has a sata/ide to usb converter so I'll give it a shot!

Cant find a converter or a usb converter... Any way of hooking this up to my pc to drag off the data without one?

    This is the hard drive:

You can buy a sata/ide to usb converter off ebay for around 20 quid.
