    Hi,
I was wondering if somone could recommend me a handy robust digital camera? I'm going travelling in a few weeks and looking for something handy and not too expensive, I'm not too much about the large megapixels as most of them will be uploaded etc. Just looking for peoples choices etc.
    Thanks
    Gary

P.S. I did a search but couldnt find any threads!

Thanks one of the lads was on about them all right, only draw back is the moving lens, one of the lads had that built into the camera (some type of sony) so sand couldnt get into the moving parts etc.

That will mean much more cost and a little less zoom.
    Is that ok?

Shockproof, waterproof and temperature variance tolerant.
This sounds like its up your alley.

One of the lads had one of these: http://ecx.images-amazon.com/images/I/41d2O4VJ%2BFL._SL500_AA280_.jpg or something similar and it's lasted him 3 years of heavy nights out, beaches, full moon parties etc.

As for the less zoom thing, that doesnt bother me too much, the price would be a factor was hoping for something less that 160 notes or so? (not much I know but there's some bargain sites out there)

I know yeah, The sony one with the internal lens costs around that
too but isn't waterproof. I assume if it is waterproof it is also dust proof?

It is worth it for piece of mind. :)

ya he did spend a small fortune on it back in the day! relatively waterproof, don't think he ever brought it diving :)

Thats a really good price for that camera.

Even if it did get wreaked from dust and stuff
at least it wouldn't have set you back too much.

I have the older version with the 12x zoom and it's a good camera. a little bulky but handy for snaps and zoom is great.

The only reason I didn't suggest that camera to you is that the front of it
slides up and down. I can see sand and grit getting in behind that.

Ya still ahs the moving parts all right! Not that easy to buy off that site either!

Lads a quick question: is the sony DSC-T20 for 170 notes a good price??

    Where are you going travelling?

Most places around the world are a lot cheaper than Ireland to buy Cameras.

Do the research on what you want to get & then look at the prices where you are going. You also save the VAT that way.

Well one of the places I'm going is Dubai, but then might want a camera before then, could i get a dsc-t20 for much cheaper than the german sites?

Meant to say buying it off a german site www.pixxass.de, prices look class!

My "guess" (based on what peiople who live there tell me) is that on something of that value you will save about €20 to €30 as you will not be paying VAT for a start. Then if Dubai is not your first port of call it's not a lot of money extra for the images you may miss out on. You will not know until you get there & shop around.

The difference becomes more noticable when you move to more expensive items like DSLR's & Lenes.

Maybe get that one & learn how to use it before you leave.

    Hi,
Ya nice one for that, I am actually thinking of getting a DSLR out there (obviously not the most expensive as I'm a beginner) but I reckon I'll go ahead and buy that all right.
    Thanks for your advice.
