Importing a 350z from UK

    Hi,

I've been looking at buying a 350z GT for a while now, and have been shopping around. The best deals seem to be in the UK as the used car market is dead over there at the moment.

I found a 2005 model going for the ridiculous price of £13,000, which is €16,421 on today's rates. I'm still a bit unsure on the new VRT rates that relate to emmissions, but I beileve that the 350z is in the highest emmissions group meaning that the VRT on importing it would be 36%(?).

I am also unsure of what you pay the 36% on exactly. Is it 36% of what I paid for the car? 36% of the car's actual value (as determined by who exactly?)...

Just a tad confused. I would appreciate if anyone could shed some light on this for me., or any other advice on importing would be good as this would be my first time.

You pay the vrt on the value of the car here as stated on the vrt site, and not what you paid for it.

Thanks for the response. Have you got a link as to where I might find this? I've googled and had no luck.

    Ugh... thanks esel.

Just filled in the neccessary info and it's telling me that the OMSP is €29k and the VRT would be €10k!

Sickening when you consider I'd be purchasing the car for about €16k, and that by EU law there should be no VRT.

I have just seen a 2005 model on cbg for 39K, so you are still saving 13k if you pay 16k in uk and 10k vrt.

Rip off ireland or what, unreal:confused:

Yep it's still not a bad deal, but most of the 03/04 GT models over here have been going for about €24k (eventually). I actually had my eye on a beauty that was initially priced at €33k and went for €23k. It's definitely a buyer's market at the moment.

Have you or anyone else imported from the UK before? If anyone has the (logistical) experience of doing it could they please let me know how it went?

I know.. I just wasn't near ready back then though. I probably still wont be purchasing till late September at this stage, also have to get my car sold too. I'm constantly keeping an eye on the market until then, and the UK market offers better cars for half the price.

    Enough to make you sick.

    ;)

I've been in love with them for years. I've been saying what you've just said to every owner I've seen since.

They have their faults like pretty much every car, but the 350z's common faults are easily and inexpesively corrected. The GT versions with the Alezan tan leather interior are just plain sexy.

Don't forget about the €1491 every year for motor tax.
    Rip of Republic indeed
