Hi, sorry if something similar has been posted before! I'm getting my girlfriend a DS for her birthday but I haven't got a clue what games to get her with it so I thought you fine folk could steer me in the right direction!

She's into RPG's mostly (she loves Final Fantasy and the like)

What can you recommend as an essential purchase? I was thinking of getting Trauma Centre maybe as well as that seems like it would interest her..... and maybe that pet dog game whatever it's called :)

    Any advice appreciated!

Trauma Centre 2 is coming out soon too and is great, but helps if you've played the first one, as ya know what they're talking about in the story!

There are a few Final Fantasy games out for the DS too, if she's a FF fan there's a chance other RPGs just won't cut it for her ;)

Nice one! is the first trauma centre pretty cheap? She does love her FF! and Fable but that's a different story...

If she likes RPGs, you can't go far wrong with Mario and Luigi: Partners in Time.
Its an action RPG, but has all the stats and battles of regular RPGs, great puzzles, fun boss battles and a brilliant funny story.

Its out a few years now, so you might need to look around.

By the way, Trauma Center 2 is out in America, so you can import it from anywhere (DS games are region free).

How about Legend of Zelda: Phantom Hourglass. My GF loved it. And when she was finished loving it I loved it myself.

F**k! I clean forgot about Zelda! And that's a game i'll play as well! double victory :)

What about non-rpg games? I want to get her some really original type game that couldn't be done on another console type jobby....

Simple - the best use of the DS controls that can't be done on any other console -

    Osu! Tatake! Ouendan!
    Ouendan 2
    Elite Beat Agents

First 2 are japanese and can be imported (you don't need to know japanese to play them). EBA is an english version of Ouendan, but with different songs and stories.

+1 for Zelda, The World Ends With You is also from Square Enix and reminds me a little of FFVII in parts.

Soul Bubbles is a nice little puzzler that puts the touch screen to excelent use.

Both myself and My GF enjoyed Mario + Luigi in Time but got eventually bored and traded it without finishing it.

Soul Bubbles is fantastic... my brothers girlfriend was absolutely and completely hooked on it until she finished it (and she finished it 100% too - all secrets, artwork and bonus levels)

Definitely Zelda, my gf loves Tetris, Picross and Animal Crossing too. Also Professor Layton is fantastic, a puzzle/mystery game. There are tons of FF games too as stated above

Thanks for the help guys. I bought her a DS with Zelda & Animal Crossing, gave it to her yesterday and apart from a few hours sleep, she has been on it non-stop.

I think she likes it! :D

Profesor Layton is a great game. If you like puzzles you'll love the game!
