Yeah, I stupidly deleted some files because I thought I was finished with them. Is there any way that I could hope to recover them?

A quick google wasn't as fruitful as I'd hoped so any suggestions are grateful.

You could give FileSalvage a go.

Use the mac for as little as possible too in the meantime as you'll just be writing over the deleted files on your hard drive.

Not sure how well it would work, but it's probably a lot easier to get data recovery software for a windows PC. So, here's what I suggest, BUY A PC.

Seriously though, if you put your mac into the hard drive mode, (start it up and hold down either the "F" or "T" key-sorry I can't remember which) until you get the firewire logo on your display, you mac is basically just an external hard drive. Plug it into a windows machine, you'll need to use a firewire cable as (unless it's changed in the last year) usb won't be supported, it should show up in your PC as an external drive. now run the data recovery software on your PC. When you are finished, hold down the power key to turn off the mac, press it again and it'll start up as normal.

I had to do a data recovery once, be warned it can take a very long time to run, but you can just leaving it running and go off and do other stuff.

    Hope it helps.

Still using Tiger I assume? Time Machine is invaluable for stuff like this.

Windows won't read a Mac in target disk mode unless you've got special software to read HFS drives.

It really doesn't get much simpler than Time Machine and recovery is even simpler ! +1 for Time Machine.

I see, could have sworn I plugged a mac into an XP machine a few years back and definitely didn't use any other software:confused:
