    Hi All,

New to this. Trying to set up a new poker tournament in my local pub (northside/ city centre) at my manager's request. Just wondering if you could answer some questions please as i'm trying to figure out what works best... thanks in advance for anyone willing to help!

    1. Best buy-in amount range?

    a)10-25 Euro

    b) 30-60 Euro

    c) 60-90 Euro

    d) 100+ Euro

    2. Structure?

    a) Freeze Out

    b) Rebuys

    3. How important is it to have dealers?

    a) Not very- get by without them
    b) It helps
    c) Essential

    4. Do all tournaments have 100% payout (or how do they make money???)

Thanks again for anyone willing to help- really appreciate it!

hi i find a double -chance freeze out works, with chip total 6000, 15 minute clock, 40 euro +5 reg works . dealers do make it much better game if you have dealers should be 10 euro reg.

Charge 10% Registration. Hard to make money in pub games. Most tournaments rely on cash tables to turn a profit.

    My 2 cents.

Some where between €25 - €60. You want to make it cheap enough to encourage people to play

    2. Structure?

    a) Freeze Out

    b) Rebuys
This depends. Some run a freeze out, some run rebuys. Any of the pub rebuy tournaments I have seen use just one rebuy OR a top up. This is where at the break, usually after 5 blind levels, if you have not used your rebuy you can top up (equivalent to rebuy) if you want.

If you have only one table (9/10 players) I would go for a freeze out. If this game ends quickly you can run another tournament directly afterwards.

    3. How important is it to have dealers?

    a) Not very- get by without them
    b) It helps
    c) Essential
    a) You would have to pay dealers to deal for you. This means that you must charge the players for this. This makes it more expensive and will not encourage people to play.
    4. Do all tournaments have 100% payout (or how do they make money???)
In a casino/dealer dealt tournament people will pay a registration fee. E.g. €50 + €5. That fee covers dealers and profit. The €50 should go into the prizepool. And 100% of these €50 should be given out in prizes. As it is a pub that is running the tournament, the profit comes from encouraging punters in the door and will come from the extra pints & 7ups ordered. I would not charge a registration fee unless you have something special like dealers who need to be paid. Most pubs offer food for free at the break.

Thanks again for anyone willing to help- really appreciate it!

    Other considerations :
Also 15 minute blinds are too short unless you give a very large starting stack. 20 minutes is good.

Tables - just use the tables already in the pub? Put green felt on the tables? Get poker table tops?

Will you have an early bird chip? This is extra chips for people who turn up and register by a certain time. This encourages people to be there before the start time for the tournament.

Have you enough chips for the expected number of players? What are the chip values? What are the blinds going to be? What is the starting stack?
A starting stack of 20,000 - 30,000 with blinds starting a 100/200 should give plenty of play.

    Thanks Lads.

you've given me a decent idea of what people want- and I suppose you'll never please everyone, as we all have differing preferences- but hopefully it'll work out well.
