Grant question

I understand the closing date for grant applications is the 29th of August, but does this deadline also apply to grant renewal forms? The renewal forms must be accompanied by a copy of my summer exam results proving that I'll be progressing into the next year, but since I failed my exams I won't have my supplemental results until the 26th of September. Will the county council accept my renewal form at this late date? (roughly 2 weeks before Michealmas term begins)

    Damn Trinity re-starting so late!!

They'd have have experienced this situation (since Trinity starts so late) so really all you've to do is contact them to let them know. You will probably be told to submit the form and then when you get your repeats you have to submit the results showing that you'll be progressing into next year, so there shouldn't be any trouble (but as I said, make sure they know!).

Grand...just emailed the county council there.
Cheers Myth, you seem to have the answer to every query people throw at you in this forum!

When it comes to anyone you're looking to get an answer from, it's often best to ring/show up rather than call. So if you don't hear back in a day or two give 'em a quick call, and make sure to get a name just for when you're dealing with them after the repeats.

And yeah... eh I don't know how to response to the second sentence so I suppose I'll just answer it with this -> :)

Can I chime in rather cheekily and ask how I go about assessing my grant entitlements/applying? Missed the boat last year only to find out that I would have been entitled to a partial grant :(

    I've a question too :o

When I filled out the grant application form before 1st year it asked me for tax forms and information about my summer jobs and stuff, but going into 2nd year now and they didn't ask me anything really, just that I had passed the year and the number of kids in the family. Will I be getting another form asking for P45s and other information? Or does it not matter anymore now that the grant levels have been frozen?

As far as I know that's it. That's the one form. I don't believe there's anything else, although of course the Council are well within their right to ask for additional information if needs be. But saying that I've been in receipt of a grant personally, so I can't really rely on experience on this one so I may be incorrect (but I think that's it).

If it doesn't get answered here pop over to the Student Finances forum, there's a few grant applicants over there who should be able to sort your query out.

Quite simply, contact your local Council/VEC. They'll walk you through the process (since they admin the scheme), and will send you out a form. The form can take some time to complete and to get the documentation together (and the form itself is around 17 pages long), but you've to keep in mind that the Council/VEC are are there to answer queries so really just go along the steps with them.

If you get your grant this year keep in mind that you can claim some costs of field trips back off the Council/VEC during the year, if you get up to any during college.
