    Hi, we are heading to Amsterdam for a weekend in Aug. As we will be restricted to time can anyone suggest the main attractions to visit? We want to get as much sightseeing in as possible. Any recommendations for restuarants or cafes for lunch? We are staying close to the Amsterdam Casino. thanks

    Vondelpark
    Van Gogh Museum
    Red Light District
    Rijksmuseum - Like the Louvre in Paris
    Take A Canal Boat Tour
    Anne Frank House
    Amsterdam Historical Museum (Historisch Museum)

    just a few ideas. I know that DK Eyewitness travel guides do major cities Top 10 places to visit, might be worth a look.

    cute_cow has it pretty much covered. Just take your pick from that list and don't try to fit too much in.

    Walk as much as you can. Amsterdam is a beautiful city in summer.

    (You could, of course, just go for a "smoke" on arrival and everything will become very interesting and worth seeing ;) )

    the tulip and flower market is pretty amazing also (don't remember much as to how i got there though, but the colours were crazy dude!!!:D)
