Help: Connecting to USB Broadband Modem in Ubuntu

Some of you may be familiar with me installing Ubuntu in the past week. I have it as secondary OS installed via WUBI. Now that I have installed it I am trying to connect to the internet to enable me to use it the way I want to for PHP programming etc. However Im having problems.

Unfortunately my machine has no ethernet card. Because of this, my broadband modem (Netopia "Cayman 3341 ADSL Smart Modem") is connected to my computer via a USB cable. It works perfectly in Windows XP.

However in Ubuntu when I attempt to connect using my username and password (provided by BT) it doesnt not seem to work. I have been selecting it as a PPPOE network connection btw. Then, when I tried to set it up to using the command line I was informed that Ubuntu could not find my modem.

Does anyone know anyway I can connect? I will fill in any details I may have omitted.

I hate to say it but it would be so easy to pick up a cheap network card (around €10 mark) that has Linux support and use an ethernet connection.
