Every year an International PhD symposium is organised by students at the European Molecular Biology Laboratory (EMBL) in Germany, and it's fully funded by an EU grant ... so if you're invited, all you accommodation, food and travel expenses are reimbursed! You need to have graduated with a degree within the past 5 years, or be a young post-doc.

The blurb: This year's symposium 'Decision Making in Biology' explores how biological systems integrate different factors and decide whether to change to a new state. Invited speakers, including Nobel Laureate Tim Hunt and other world-renowned experts, will provide an overview of what determines a 'Decision in Biology' at several levels of complexity, ranging from molecules to populations, moving through cells and organisms. Participants will have the opportunity to present and discuss their own work in poster sessions and selected short talks. Young researchers and leading scientists have ample time to interact in a relaxed and informal environment.

I highly recommend it (especially for PhD students towards the beginning of their research), having been involved with organizing previous events!
