Lovely people at Meteor are "demanding" that I take a new phone by the end of the week. Currently have the Nokia 6230 which I like...

I know the 6300 is out over a year now and the E51 is pretty recent, besides that is there anything else?

Anybody have any thoughts on which would be better?

    Regards

I wouldn't take an upgrade unless you want one, their trying to get you to sign another contract-(obviously feeling under fire?!)

BUt DEF the Nokia E51! way superior

    how are they 'demanding'?

there is no comparison between the e51 and the 6300. the e51 is miles ahead

Thanks for the advice, my mind has been made up!!

    *** Side Note ***

Its not a regular Bill Pay Tariff, its the Business Customer and there more than 20 phones on the one contract.

Anytime there is a fault with the phone, it is simply sent away and (generally) a new phone is returned to us. As the 6230 has been taken off the shelves, they are "strongly advising" to change in order to be supported should there be any faults...

Contract is from January 12th, so not much difference in the contract date!!

E51 is the better phone by a long shot. I had a 6300 and got rid of it after 2months for a E51.

Interesting topic, Im in need of a new phone (with meteor) but not due up grade for while yet. So think i go for the nokia e51. Is it easy to set up emails and maybe satnav on it? Also if i buy it as pay as you go phone would this hamper my chance of getting another phone when Im due a up grade??
    Cheers

Last week, I moved from the 6300 to the E51, both have advantages, for now i favour the 6300 but this might be because I know it backwards and the E51 is different, some things are more complicated with the E51. Some minor featues are missing, but the E51 does more.

A 3G phone might be more expensive to run, not sure on costings..

I find the phone excellent for emails. There is an inbuilt IMAP/POP3 client that can be set to retrieve emails every x minutes. Alternatively, you can get a blackberry application off the Nokia website. I do not have blackberry email though so I can't comment.

Using gmail and IMAP, the email set up is pretty much flawless.

Satnav is also very cool. I'm sitting on a train at the moment on my way back to Dublin and am currently 177km away from from Heuston, travelling at a speed of 145.3km/h :pac:
The only problem I have with the satnav, is that while the maps etc are free, you must pay a subscription to get the voice aided navigation. Not that big an issue really as the cost of the maps etc is included in the €250+ you would pay for a garmin/tom tom.

As for connectivity the phone has everything you can think of. GPRS, EDGE, UMTS, HSDPA, Bluetooth 2.0 + A2DP, IRDA, WIFI, USB.

Phone also has SIP support built in, meaning that if you have a voip provider that supports SIP (most do at this stage), you can use your E51 to make voip calls via WIFI.

With meteor's 3G network in testing at the moment, you would be mad not to go for a HSDPA enabled phone such as the E51.

    Forgive me stupidity...

From the comments and research, I see that it does in fact have WIFI...

Does this mean that if I stumble upon a free Wireless Network, I can connect or are there more settings & hidden costs required??

no if there's an unprotected network you can just connect and browse for free.

I recommend the e51 as well. My Dad went from a 6230 to a Nokia e51 and he's loving it. He wants a straight forward phone that takes a fair bit of use and is straight forward to use.

While the Nokia e51 is Symbian compared to the 6300 which you might argue is a more straight forward OS, the Nokia e51 can be made very straight forward by setting up the shortcut keys etc.

Also has the advantages of better email support, faster web browsing and also wifi if that's your cup of tea.
