New purchase halp! tv + cinema kit

All going well, I'll be moving into a new gaff come the end of Aug with 3 friends.

    Obviously, a big tv/4 is better than a big tv/1 :p

Bigger is good as long as the price is right along with a home cinema kit [surround sound + dvd/upscaler]

So LCD or Plasma or projector?

I've got a 360 that'll be hooked up to it. Chances of a PS3 being bought after are high.

Any particular brand we should look out for/avoid?

    Same for the sound.sytem. Recommendations/advice?

The other thing is, we prolly wont be purchasing for a few weeks after Sept but I'd like to be looking now and be aware of price changes and stuff.

    halp plz! :)

If yuore willing to buy online alot is being said on boards right now about richersounds.Theyve got a store in Belfast and have an onlne shop.www.richersounds.com. As faras i know anything on that site can delivered anywhere in ireland for just 20 pounds. You'll see a lot more on their consumerinteraction forum. It looks like they are the cheapest place in ireland to get a tv nowadays..In terms of brands i would recommend sony or samsung if youre looking for an lcdor panasonic if you want a plasma.A projector may also suit ur needs. but make sure of it befor you buy.Decent projectors are'nt that cheap either.

    Cheers for the input.

I'll take a look at rs.com & the forum. Like I said initially, it prolly wont be for another bit till we can buy but its good to have some options.

I would also recommend the new Sony W4000 range! Seems to be one of the best Tvs on the market at the minute! Price isnt too bad either compared to the price I payed for my 40W2000 this time last year!

There is an offer on at the minute that includes a "Free" Blu ray player with the TV if this isnt your Cup of tea try twisting the salesmans arm to throw in a Ps3 instead of the Blu ray player! Its worh chancing your arm!

Looking at a 42" Panasonic Plasma on rs.com but they dont seem to have any home entertainment kits with an upscaling dvd player.

Would we be better buying the dvd player & speakers seperate?

    42" plasma -> http://www.richersounds.com/showproduct.php?cda=showproduct&pid=PANA-TH42PZ80

    or

    46" lcd -> http://www.richersounds.com/showproduct.php?cda=showproduct&pid=SHAR-LC46X20E

Like I said originally, gonna be mostly used for movies and hi-def gaming.

Only emailed richersounds today so waiting on word back from them. Might be able to stretch to afford a larger size plasma.

if it's movies and games you're doing then the panny plasma is what you want kai.

i have the py80 (same as the pz80 except has a UHF tv tuner) and it's seriously the best tv i've ever seen. it was so good that when i showed my dad the quality, he went straight out and bought one for his room and he wasn't even planning to buy a tv at all.

i have watched casino royale on it countless of times and it still blows me away quality wise every single time. plasma's are well know for being truely better at reproducing black colours.

you can't go wrong with panasonic, they offer the best bang for buck in the Tv market imo.

can't help ya with the cinema kit though :( i know nothing about them but will be getting one as soon as i get a job lol

    nice gear,

what price did u pay for the tv, was it the uk site price as in the link or their richersounds.ie price?

I'd also like to know what the panny set you back.Up to recently i had only ever been interested in lcds but i saw a panasonic plasma recently(This exact one i think) and it blew me away.I think RS only charge 20£ delivery on tvs(To Boardsies only, of course) which should mean the price of the tv delivered is 750£(730£ + 20£ delivery).Am i right??If so, it means the this comes in at around 940e only, which is a fantastic price.I could nearly afford that!!:eek:

Best of luck with the system and all OP.The pioneer home cinema also looks like a top piece of kit!!

yep, total incl delivery + the 5 year warrenty on the tv was ~972 GBP ~ 1200e [on xe.com today]

Yes, delivery was only £20 for boardsies :)

It was the rs.com price I got. I wanted the 50" panny listed on the .co.uk but the lads in belfast just couldnt get it as its the model line is finished and they just cant get one in if I wanted!

Pics of course when it comes and gets setup. Need to find a tv stand now..

ty for the help guys :)

    tell me about it!

The tv isnt in stock til friday but the nice guy on teh phone said the delivery guys should pick it up by monday, so tue/wed next week :)

All reviews of the tv are positive; maybe some SD issues but proper settings fix that. HD is supposed to be amazing. All I need is for the housemate to buy his ps3! :P

    NOoOoOoOoOoOO!!

rs are having problems getting the panny plasma in stock; seems to be issues all over getting them. Not 100% sure if it's just the 42" z80 that I ordered but it's been over 2 weeks and rs cant get an ETA on the panny stuff :(

Now I need a new tv ... again

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 16,396 ✭✭✭✭kaimera

    C'mere boardsies,

There's a 42" panny plasma with the same screen specs as the pz80 but with no sd-card slot but I can't remember the model name of it the guy @ rs gave me. :/

    Any ideas?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 26,584 ✭✭✭✭Creamy Goodness

that's a **** one about the panny's being out of stock, but they are selling like hot cakes just goes to show ya how well they are regarded.

my dad got a PY80 about 3 weeks ago in DID for 1400euro - although i believe this wasn't the list price, he has excellent bargaining skills - if you willing to spend a little extra than previous, you'll get the UHF tuner with that as well if you ever needed it although you said you didn't (could come in handy for hooking up older consoles to the tv).

i don't know what the other model is as i'm only aware of the pz70/80 and py70/80 models.

pz8 is apparently the same specs as the pz80 minus the sd-card slot.

Can't seem to find confirmation tho.

and ftr, richersounds have quality customer support. I can't say I've had such a pleasant experience dealing with people over the phone.

That is incorrect. The PZ8 is the base model with lesser quality screen & connection options. I would go for the 80 and above in the Panasonic range.

Do RS have the PZ85 or PZ800 in stock?

Do you happen to have a link to a review/info on the pz8 by chance?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,373 ✭✭✭ongarite

I'll let you look for reviews.
Here is official specs list for both:
    http://www.panasonic.co.uk/html/en_GB/870304/index.html
    http://www.panasonic.co.uk/html/en_GB/710037/index.html

The main difference is contrast ratio & colour gradations

just checked online, and rs.com have both the pz85b and the pz800b. Dunno if they are in stock but they are 100-250 pounds more than the pz80 which seems to be an absolute steal for 729.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 16,396 ✭✭✭✭kaimera

Aite, story from richersounds [just off the phone with them] is that they can't get in the pz80 but are getting the pz8 @ £749 but Panny are honouring the 5 year warrenty at that price.

I've been waiting x weeks a this stage so ammended the order to take the pz8 when it comes in soon.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,373 ✭✭✭ongarite

Its your choice man but I wouldn't go for it seeing as the PZ80 is £729 and the PZ8 has last years panel, no SD reader, Viera link, surround sound and less conections.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 16,396 ✭✭✭✭kaimera

Yes I know that but they cant get the pz80 in stock.
