Ive been with my boyfriend for three months now. We get on so well and we're mad about one and other. Thing is,, we are from very different backgrounds.... He's from the wrong side of the tracks so to speak... This doesn't bother me at all coz I love when we share stories of our very different up bringings and past... but all his friends say to him " why is she with ya" and "how'd you manage to get her" and even his family have asked me why I'm with him.... at this stage it is beginning to get to me a little....

Does it matter that we're very different? Can this relationship stand the test of time or are we fighting a loosing battle?

I'm from a wealthy neighbourhood and my hubby is from one of the roughest estates in Dublin. What differece does it make? If you're happy go for it. Ignore everyone else.

It will only make a difference if you let it.

If this was the case I would be with a skinny ,hot hot hot lady with loads of hair, driving a crap car. Joking aside, you cannot really pick who you fall for, and it does not matter where they are from as long as they treat you right that is all the counts.

Where you are both from doesn't necessarily make you both opposites. And if anyone else see's it that way, they are just being closed minded and deserve to be ignored/slapped in the face depending on if they're just observing or are actually question your choice.

More importantly: does it matter what other people think? Why are you letting what others say influence what is going on between you?
Why should it be a losing battle?

Do you actually have doubts yourself and are using what others say as an excuse?...... the number of PIs that contain variants of I love him/her but...

and then proceed to list why they dont.

You cannot influence what other people feel and think, only your own actions.
If you were secure in your feelings and ideas on this.... you wouldn't be here.

Self doubt is at times a killer, it is also at times a justified warning. You have to decide which

Edit: three months is about the time you begin to learn about the other, so think also about whether this has somethnig to do with it as well

If ye get on so well, who cares what other people think?! This relationship is about you and your boyfriend, no one else and if people want to be narrow minded about your back grounds, let them off! Enjoy the relationship and each other's company ;-)

I don't normally care what people think and I thoroughly believe our relationship can go the distance but I cannot get over the amount of narrow minded people... It is incredible... and they dont seem to be afraid to voice their opinions either!!

You are not opposites. You just come from different areas. That doesn't make you opposites.

Opposites is when you have absolutely nothing in common whatsoever in terms of personality. You don't like the same books, films, foods, pubs, clubs.....

Personally I think the most important thing is that you can talk easily and like to do the same things in your spare time. If you have that then you're most definately not opposites.

Friends are saying all that stuff because you've only been together 3 months. It's still a novelty. If you stay together they'll stop. After a year nobody will care about either of ye any more and you won't get many comments any more.
