Violin Pegs- Slipping?

    Hiya,
Iv had one of my violins for a really long time and it is absolutely beautiful- and it's pegs are the originals etc and are beautifully carved. It wasn't played for about a year but when I went back to playing it again the pegs started to slip so that it wouldn't stay in tune..

Any recommendations on what I could do to stop this? I kind of want to avoid getting the peg's replaced...
    Thank you :D

if you take off the strings and put a little bit of chalk or rosin on the pegs it generally stops them slipping.

Yeah this works, or if chalk seems overkill, a good covering with a thick dark pencil works too for small slippages.
