Congratulations to Kelly Proper the latest to break a national (senior) record in 2008. Tonight in Amsterdam she jumped 6.51 in Amsterdam (+1.8) to beat Terri Horgan's long standing mark of 6.48.

She was over Terri's mark on 2 other occasions with illegal wind readings. Her full series is as follows:

    Verspringen Vrouwen Heat:1
    1 PROPER Kelly IRL 6.57 +2.1
    6.57 2.1 - 6.26 0.5 - 6.51 3.1 - X - 6.44 1.3 - 6.51 1.8

Well done to Kelly who must surely now be a real prospect for 2012. She now holds the Irish Junior/U23/Senior records.

    Fantastic stuff.

Considering she's so good at the jumps and sprinting, I wonder are there any thoughts of the heptathlon down the line? She looks quite strong aswell...

Great minds think a like. A 23.69 200m and 6.51m LJ are right up there in terms of world class heptathlon marks for those events. I'd imagine she'll stick with the LJ and Sprinting for the time being; she has a bright future in whatever event she does anyway.

She has thrown a 32m javelin and she can hurdle but would need to at least get sub 14 which she would do I'd say*. Could she putt a shot 12.50m and high jump 1.75? If so she would be in or around the 5900 mark with 6000 the A standard at the moment.

The really positive thing I take is that her sprinting is slightly stronger than her jumping at the moment which is a nice place to be for a jumper.

    * In fact she could be a pretty serious hurdler as she has all the ingredients.

IIRC, that javelin throw was at the european club championships, so it was likely done with a crash course on the event and very little practice, so god knows what she could throw with more attention paid to the event. She'd give Kelly Sotherton a run for her money anyway, with that 32m!

Where will she get the coaching for the multis?

Would the technical demands/sessions not stop her from progressing further in the lj/sprints

The 100m/200m and long jump are all pretty even when it comes to the scoring tables, however on the ranking lists she is 12th in euro u23 in lj and 27th in 200m (100m not in top 30).

Sotherton has a 14m+ shot and a 1.8m hj to make up for that jav!

She has access to a pretty decent former multi-eventer who is now a top coach in her current club so multi experience wouldn't be an issue:cool:

Anyway, if she was going to go down that route I would presume she could do what many of the elites do and get various expertise in the various events, an additional throws coach is the only place she may have to look.

Slightly O.T here but on the talk of the heptathlon, was watching a programme last night on BBC about the G.B Olympic hopefuls and Jess Ennis featured..on about her training/hopes etc..but suffered three stress fractures and is now out for 6months. She must of been fancing her chances of a medal with her coming 4th in Osaka and Kluft not competing.

I had fancied her as a gold medal winner as she was flying in the winter and was looking in brilliant shape but the injury has scuppered her. She will be a good bet for 2012.
