booking flights

    Hi
    Just a quick question.
Do flights become cheaper, the closer the flight (longhaul) is to departure? I know they get more expensive in the final days if you book online, but say if you turn up at the ticket desk the day of the flight to book and they have empty seats?
My instincts say it will cost as least as much as booking online in the days before.
    Thanks

    No is the short answer.

The long answer is that airlines don't have to fill a plane to make a profit, so if you show up on the day, they can charge whatever they like on the basis that it's extra money for them, but you have to travel that day (or you wouldn't be at the desk looking to buy a ticket).

Generally, you need to book a few weeks in advance or look out for deals online.
