Did a search but could find no definitive answers..

The possibility of moving to and working in kilkenny has arisen, so id like to gauge the locals opinions on where to live in kilkenny (city) but not only limited to the city, i would consider some of the larger towns like Callan and Castlecomer also..

Id probable be after a one or tow bedroomed apartment but if the price of renting houses are reasonable id consider a 3bedroom house etc..

Really my main priority would be security, i.e secure parking.

So post up yer recommendations and the places that are best avoided..;)

    All help much appreciated. :D

Most of Kilkenny is fine to live in, whats your budget and where have you seen?

Budget would prob be about €800 pm for the 2 bed apartment and then maybe around the same maybe €900pm for a 3 bed house.

I will be in kilkenny during the week so it would be good to know where to start looking around..

You should have no problems getting a nice gaff for that kind of money. Its a buyer's/renter's market at the moment :)

Have you been looking at places on Daft?

A good few 3 bedroom houses gone up in Callan lately so there's bound to be a few for rent, its only 9 odd miles out from Kilkenny so its a fast enough run and rent is likely cheaper too because of this.

Callan is grand, traffic on the main street can be abit nuts at time but you can always bypass this by using the bypass road and getting to the top of the town via it.

Paulstown is pretty good. 10 minutes to Kilkenny, 15 or so to Carlow and c. 25 mins. to Waterford for a variety of shopping/ events. It's also on the direct route from Kilkenny to Dublin.

Ardilea is just off the castlecomer road in kilkenny, nice looking apartments, gated, less than 10 mins walk to the town centre... presumably there are some for rent.

A friend of mine is looking to buy at the minute in KK and she has been around to a few places, there is a lot around. It depends which side of the city you want to live, there is a lot of places in the Waterford road/side of the city which is only a short distance to the city centre and have heard of some places central. It also depends on whether you have a car or not as there is not a great bus service.

Best of luck with your search!

Sadly Kilkenny has a poor bus service alright, awful shame. :(

about the bus service, was recently in the tourist info office earwigging to some tourist asking what time the bus was to cashel. basically the person behind the desk said it would take him around 4hrs to get there. changing at clonmel then cahir.the bus services in kk city are shocking.i live in urlingford and there are more busses than kk city. Also about places to live..urlingford is onlyhalf hour to kk. its more central to get to places such as cork dublin. your on the motorway at portloise in less than half hour.
