I was trying to install open office when my laptop crashed. Now, every time I try start the laptop, I get a black screen with this message:
No boot sector or internal hard drive

No bootable devices--strike F1 to retry boot, F2 for setup utility
Press F5 to run onboard diagnostics

I started it up in safe mode, which worked. I tried a system restore, but it says there are no system restore points created :( (I assumed it created them automatically). The next thing I tried in safe mode was uninstalling the program, but it wouldn't let me.

Next, I tired to start it with the 'Last known good configuration'. That worked.

    Once.

When I turned on the laptop again, I'm back to square one - and now the last known good configuration doesn't work. Sometimes I'm prompted to do a repair, which never works either.

I tried contacting Dell, and there's no-one there as It's a bank holiday in Ireland (India call centeres must share bank holidays with Ireland! )

    Any help appreciated!

Any odd noises from your hard drive? Might have failed/be in the process of failing. There's a remote chance your master boot record has (somehow) been corrupted.

No strange noises and it starts in safe mode. Might just wait till I contact Dell tomorrow - it's still under warranty so I don't want to mess it up!
