Ireland just beat Kenya by 4 wickets in the semis to clinch a place in next years tournament.

Chasing a meagre 68, they made heavy weather of the target but finally made it with 5 balls to spare.

But they made it through anyway which is the important thing - Yay :)

    Deadly.

Do people reckon it'd be easier for smaller teams to cause an upset in 20/20 than in the 50 over game?

Yeah I think so, I remember in the last World T20 tournament last year Zimbabwe beat Australia in one of the matches so there's obviously hope for the likes of Ireland, who've been known to shock a few in recent times...

We definitely won't have Morgan for the 20/20 WC. He's been called up to the England Lions squad to play South Africa. Another Irish player lost to English cricket.

excellent stuff. Will help to increase the profile of Irish cricket even more.

Scotland hit 107-8 from their 20 ovs in the other semi final. Holland currently 56-2(10ovs) in reply

Great stuff - won't be as big a deal as the World Cup last year but the proximity of the games might make up for that. We could end up in any one of 3 groups so will be interesting to see how it plays out. If Zimbabwe pull out and we beat the Dutch then we'd be in with Bangladesh and India which would be our best chance of making the Super 8's - but early days for that kind of specualtion!

well we made hard work of all our games but i have to say the bowling against bermuda was amazing, 9 overs of great 'death' bowling, i know bermuda aren't up to much but the bowling was so accurate and difficult to get away that many top teams would have struggled against it.
i'd prefer if we lost the final and got into the group with england and pakistan as i honestly think we'd have a decent chance of beating either/both of them. i don't think anyone will beat india.
pity about the sparse attendance, while the set-up in stormont is excellent i think a full clontarf would have been better.
eoin morgan didn't exactly set the world alight with his 9 in the extremely important  pro40 game yesterday, he would have scored a bagful for us but the right decision was made to leave him out.

True, but he was given out caught behind in that match when he'd missed the ball by a mile...

yeh it was a shocking decision. Didnt look comftorable at all though early in his innings apart from a boundry off the first ball.

The final against the Netherlands has been abandoned due to rain, meaning the trophy's shared. Unclear who'll be put in which group in the actual tournament though.

Looks like we'll be in the India & Bangladesh group.

    From ICC http://icc-cricket.yahoo.com/media-release/2008/August/media-release20080805-20.html

    "
As the final played out, Ireland will be Associate 1 in the tournament group of the the ICC World Twenty20 ground on the basis its 10th place in the Reliance Mobile ICC ODI Championship while the Netherlands will be Associate 2 as it leads the Associate ODI ranking table.

This means if Zimbabwe opts not to ratify its earlier decision taken at the Annual Conference to step back from the tournament, Ireland will join England and Pakistan in Group B and the Netherlands will form Group D with South Africa and New Zealand.

However, if Zimbabwe confirms it won’t play, Ireland will take Zimbabwe’s place in Group A (with India and Bangladesh), the Netherlands will ease into Group B (with England and Pakistan) and Scotland, which defeated Kenya in the third and fourth-place play-off on Monday, takes a position in Group D (with South Africa and New Zealand).

In fairness all of the scoring in the tournament was very poor. Must have been quite a poor pitch. The weather conditions played their part im sure!

All batting sides di dpoorly, I just felt that we didn't perform very well with the bat and then we gave our bowlers a big task each time to keep the score down - but the job got done and well done - it's the sign of an improving side if we can still win matches and not play well! Roll on India and Bangledesh - 2 to qualify from each group of 3 for the second round of the T20 World Cup.

Its time for players to realise that they are playing for their country, not just another club that they can leave, look at Ed Joyce, what a success he was for England, now he has to wait years to play for his own country again. I think Ireland, if they get their act together, could reali make an impact at the T20, cmon lads!!!:D
