    Canvas size issue.
I was used to create borders by relatively increasing canvas size with selected background colour. However I can't select background colour now - it is inactive.
Could you point me in some direction, what is different in CS3 from CS2?

I don't think its changed. Is the background layer locked or something? You have to double click on the layer to unlock it.

This is the dialogue box I get:
    canvasfv6.jpg

I just set the background extension colour...

Oh my... I have to check it.

Nope, that was not the issue. I have tried to use Filter - Distort - Lens Correction - Vignette.
After using this filter the "Background colour" in "Canvas Size" is locked.
I just have to be the trouble maker...

oh you've gone an' broken it now!

In that case you should be able to create a new layer beneath the main layer after resizing the canvas.
Ctrl click on the new layer icon (assuming the background is unlocked) and use Alt-backspace to fill it with the background colour (i think thats the correct keystroke anyhow!)

what are you trying to do?
are you trying to create a different colour boarder around your image?
are you on a mac or windows pc?

    I am VISTA user.
When I had used Filter - Distort - Lens Correction - Vignette, I wasn't able to create BW border around picture by increasing size of the canvas. I was trying to do it for this picture:
    2731045487_297d863d9c.jpg
I had to fill the transparent area with bucket of blood. Ehm, paint.
And it worked on other pictures, however using fake vignetting prevented increasing canvas size with selected background colour.
Now, when I know what is going on, I can be a little calmer. However I am still at the very beginning of the CS3 book. I can only guess that framing will be mentioned later.

Not sure if this is what you mean, - but after you use vignetting on CS3 you need to "flatten the layer" and then you can change your canvas size as usual... helpful?

That makes sense. I'll try that next time. Thank you for help.

ok had a look and what I can figure is that you had just loaded the image and went str8 to filter without using layers.
use layers for this then go canvas resize etc and you'll get your boarder.

try after that layer/layer style/stroke and i'm sure you'll figure the rest out for another colour frame inside of frame look

PS:I always use layers when changing anything.

see if that makes your pipe smoke a bit better
