Toshiba Power problem

My toshiba laptop has stopped powering up.....it think it might be something really simple like the actual power cable is broken so I'm gonna try to get a new one today. Could there be a problem with the connection?

Is there a light on the power transformer? Does it light up? When you plug the cable into the laptop is the connection firm or does it fall out? Does the charge-light on the laptop light up? Is the pin inside the power port missing? Have you tried another AC outlet? Have you tried removing the battery and plugging in just the cable?
