Can Intel Macs run SPSS?

    Hi folks,

Quick question on behalf of my sister. She is about to start a Masters in some discipline of psychology where she will need to use a program called SPSS which deals in statistics afaik. She has been told that Intel Macs cannot run SPSS. Is this true? Her Macbook pro is the initial one (I think) with the 1.83GHz processor. Any help greatly appreciated as she doesn't want to go to the hassle of selling up if not necessary. Cheers.

I bought a Macbook in September '07 and have SPSS 11 on it.
    It's a 2.16 Intel Core 2 Duo.

Where is she going to be studying?

She will be in York. Thing is I have seen things like this

    Just confused.

Heh, I just found that too.

Afraid I don't know York but I'd imagine they've a helpdesk for IT in case she has any hiccups but that won't help this second. Hmm.

Maybe email their Irish contacts http://support.spss.com/default.asp?refpage=contactus.asp

SPSS is just horrible - it throws files all around the filesystem on Macs.

Personally I'm going to learn R and use it where possible because my brief foray with SPSS was so horrible on the Mac.

All new versions will run correctly on an Intel Mac, that is SPSS version 16 and above. All previous versions may provide math's errors with Intel mac's

I agree though, it is pretty badly designed. i have version 16 and I much prefer the windows version. I also use it for PhD psychology research. If she is in UCD, they are on version 11, which is free to postgrad students, I am not sure if it will run and install on the new Intel macs.

She could always run the Windows version via Boot Camp or virtualisation if there's no other option.
