I wonder how Kay felt interviewing a stalker with an obsession with female celebrities? Especially since he had convictions for attempted rape and sexual assault. Very odd.

Should a man have done the interview?

    Just a thought.

The interview should have been done by anyone other than Kay Burley. She is dreadful. A prime example of tabloid TV.

The whole Sky News outfit is a prime example of tabloid TV, just like the newspapers run by it's owner Rupert Murdoch.

I think Sky News used to be good. When it first began it was slick and professional. But any amount of viewing of Sky News now reveals it to be repetitive, sensational and packed with too much advertising. I'd admit it's a good scoop for them getting the first TV interview with Barry George.

Please keep this thread on the topic of the Barry George interview and Sky News' handling of it rather than turning into a general debate about the pros and cons of the channel in general.

Despite not being a fan of Sky News I think they handled the interview very well. That's why I posted the link, as well as the fact it's, as far as I know, Barry Georges' first and only interview to date. I think some of the criticisms of Kay Burley are a bit over the top. I think she was sensitive and sympathetic, while being a touch skeptical and inquiring, at the same time. I'd say overall she hit the right note.

She could have been a bit more prepared, for example the question about the lie detector test, "Would you take a lie detector test to clear your name?.." when he's just been cleared, was a bit careless. Although she caught him out on a little lie when he said he didn't know who Jill Dando was. She immediately asked him about the photos of her the police found in his apartment. Therefore he must have known who she was.

The News of the World carried a full interview with Barry George on Sunday.

These lines at the end of the piece might help answer your question:
And Barry is full of odd surprises. After our interview, he played his twisted idea of a flirty joke on his psychologist Dr Susan Young as she sat on the floor, back to the wall and legs straight out in front of her.

As Barry walked past he raised his size 10 foot as if to crush her groin, stopping just an inch from his target.

Then he stood back, broke into a smirk and said: "Hey, I wouldn't do that to you."

It was an uneasy moment for everyone in the room. And a few seconds before we could all breathe again.
