DIGITAL TERRESTRIAL television (DTT), a technology that is set to herald a new era in television viewing across Europe, will be available in the Republic from autumn 2009, according to Minister for Communications Éamon Ryan.

DTT, which will eventually replace the traditional analogue television signals, will be available in 80 per cent of households by the end of 2009 and will be extended to all households by 2012, when the Government plans to switch off the analogue signal.

Not with only 40 transmitter they won't , Norway will have 450 transmitters live by 2009 for example .

    Does Ryan either

    a) have a secret plan to build the 100+ transmitters additionally required

    or

    b) simply talk through his hole and lie.. like he does on BB issues all the time .

I'd suggest that he hasn't a bloody clue what he's talking about, like every other minister. He just reads from cue cards.

    140 is only 95%

They ought to have near 99%, about 250 transmitters.
    Roughly:
    5% is 60,000 households
    1% is 12,000 households

The toothless fairy will live to regret his remarks. There'll be at least 5% of the population who'll get no RTE mux no matter what sort of aerial setup they have. I wonder how they'll feel about their TV licence when they have to pay Sky to watch RTÉ.

Guys, whatever about criticising the government and their policies, personal attacks of this nature on indvidual people are not really on. (Libel laws!!!!)

Plenty of discussion on ASO elsewhere.

    Thread closed.
