freelance photographer camera update

im looking to up date my camera, i do freelance photography and im regularly called by local newspapers to cover anything from a football match to a fancy dress party. i need a camera that will cover all possibilities!! thinking of nikon d200. any suggestions????

It's not only a camera but a variety of lenses you'll need if you plan to do that.

The d200 will do the job for you.
I assume you have Nikon lenses ?

im using d40 with 18-135 lens. but its pretty poor for photography. but i'd keep this camera for back up.

Something like a D300 with an 18-200 and a flash would probably be a good setup allowing you to cover most things.
