Camera Advice Please

So, I currently have a FinePix s5600 bridge camera, and I think it's about time to upgrade. I have been looking specifically at the Nikon brand of cameras, and I am stuck between the D40, D60 or D80.

Now, I have a mate who is into photography who has recommended the D60, he tells me it's basically the D80 with newer technology, but others have warned me off it. (Slower flash sync and other things that probably wont bother me at the start, but might down the line)

From all accounts the D40 is an amazing camera, but will the fact that it has less megapixels make much of a difference to me? (I am not likely to be printing anything poster size).

Where is a good place to buy cameras in Ireland? I am in Co. Kerry. From what I have seen, prices on the net tend to be a few hundred euro cheaper than the high street photography shops.

I will be heading to the UK for a weekend next month, and Dixons Tax Free in Stanstead have the D60 with 18-55 VR for 349 GBP and the D80 with 18-135 for 524 GBP. Would it be worth picking one of these up at that price?

Thanks in advance for all your help.

For what its worth, I have a D80 with 18 to 135 lens for past year. I think its an excellent kit. Maybe you should buy a D80 and go that bit further and get the 18 to 200 VR lens with it. I have taken 12,000 snaps in the 12 months and am still learning all the features. good luck with whatever you buy.

All three are good cameras, as is your Fuji. I don't think that any of the Nikon or Canon gear is bad.

What doesn't your Finepix S5600 not do, that makes you need an upgrade?

If it's not limiting you at the moment then stay with it. For most general photography you probably have a decent enough camera already.

If it's limiting you, then it's a matter of working out which of the Bodies & Lens combinations will give you better performance in that area (& what budget you have)
