ive had an xbox and it packed up on me after 13 mths, just 3 weeks after the warrenty ran out funny that, so as i was allways a ps head i said id just use my ps2 till i got the money for a ps3, finally got one in may, now that i have it a few months i love it to bits, really good machine, free online no extra money to fork out if i want to watch a dvd, BUT ive been on a few forums and im hearing some horror storys of them packing up whats with that, now i know that sony are more or less replaceing any system thats crashes , thats more than i can say about micro soft who nearly had me in tears, i was just wondering if anyone had any reliability figures reguarding the 2 consoles, this is not a 360 v PS3 thread please dont post comments that are going to annoy either owners i really hate that crap and so do most people, both consoles are really good in there own right, the PS3 has features that the 360 dosent and visa versa.lets leave it at that.psn Dublinreaper happy gaming:) :pac:

There is absolutely no doubt that the PS3 is more reliable than the Xbox.

The dealings you had with MS were when the product was out of warranty. The dealings that most have had with the Sony seem to have been when the PS3 was still in warranty.

I very much doubt that little seperates Sony or MS when it comes to dealing with products that are out of warranty.

My personal dealings with MS when my 360 went tits up was extrmely positive, i.e. explained what the jazz was and was off the phone within 5 mins, had the console picked up within a few days and it was delivered back to me in just over a week.

I only know one person so had an issue with a PS3. He left it back to where he bought and they sent it back to Sony. Sony delivered a replacement to the store in less than 2 weeks.

i just tought it would be better guil07 if i just posted the comments off the page you found 1 in every 3 xbox 360,s will pack up, compared to 1% with the ps3 and wii i think that pretty much answers my question.

Retailers estimate that one in every three Microsoft Xbox 360’s sold fails leaving frustrated owners staring at the red ring of death, or worst a black screen that reads “disc unreadable”. When compared to other systems, former EB games associate Matthiew G said…

“Failure rates for all other consoles were not high enough for EB to consider revising their policies. Most other console systems have a failure rate of less than one percent, including the PlayStation 3.”

Not to be left out of the conversation, when another EB Games manager was asked if the store warranty was “worth the price”, he mentioned that the Nintendo Wii, with hundreds of units sold at their location has had ZERO come back as defective. We can hear Nintendo executives patting themselves on the back right now, no wait that’s just thunder.

A Best Buy associate who chose to remain anonymous claimed that the failure rate of the Microsoft Xbox 360 was in the ballpark of “between a quarter to a third” of the systems sold.

That said the Xbox 360 is the most successful console of the next gen bunch worldwide and has the largest market saturation to date with an impressive list of exclusive titles. Simple mathematics tells us that the more there are out there the more of a chance that some will fail, but 33% is still very high.

Almanu. Did your 360 die of RROD? Even if it didn't I would almost chance that when chatting to MS cos of the 3 year warrenty.

i went through 4 360's before getting my money and upgrading to an elite, and that's been grand since.

my ps3 is a 60gb bought just before launch (sometimes working in a shop helps) and it's never hiccuped once, even with linux installed on it :D

    Had my former 60GB since April11 2007
The hard drive conked out on me, wouldn't restore. Only cost €60 odd for a new 120GB HDD.

I'm super paranoid about dust getting into the ps3. I have this niggling feeling that when the fans get faster they pull the dust on top of the blu-ray mechanism.

As soon as I hear the fans getting louder ,I open all the windows
