Internet Betting V Bookies

Would you be more inclined to internet betting or going to the bookies? At the moment I prefer the bookies. Internet booking is easier, yes, but there's nothing more satisfying that walking up to the desk with a winning slip.

In my eyes, and many are the same, there is no difference.

I prefer to back in the bookies for a couple of reasons.

The main one being it seemed easier to spend/lose money online as the money you spend is not seen as its a touch of a mouse.

At least in the bookies you see the hard earned cash being handed over.

Another reason would be my local bookies has some nice women in there working which online bookies dont have... :)

Furthermore guaranteed prices are handy and money back specials also.

I usually place most of my bets on the exchanges for the better prices, but after doing so, I'd regularly walk up and sit in the bookies just for a bit of atmosphere.

rarely set foot in bookies and if I do its usually in the door, place bet, walk out the door. Only stay to watch if its not on my television (don't have RacingUK). The amount of idiots in bookies roaring at lucky numbers draws and virtual racing depresses me.

exchanges and oddschecker mean that online is better value. Watch the exchanges to predict the market moves before the bookies react. There is the odd decent special bet in the bricks and mortar bookies, but I dont think there is any contest. You can only be in one betting office at a time, but you can access prices from a range of bookies online - not to mind exchanges.

There is more than a few bookies managers who are of the jobsworth variety, little hitlers in their little kingdoms*. I havent had any disputes with any of them, but have seen them in action.

If there is one downside to internet/telephone bookies ( not exchanges) it is that you are liable to be "knocked back" on any decent bet -- e.g., if you want €100 E/W on a 20/1 you are likely to be offered €20 E/W at S.P.
And if you are a consistently winning gambler you can expect your account to be closed.

With the cloak of anonymity that you have going into betting offices you are unlikely to experience these sanctions.

That is true. Ladbrokes of all people have forced me to stop betting with them with it. (only one to date, I'm no JP McManus obviously, but was surprised that it was them who cracked first) But to get 200 ew on a 9/2 shot in a 8 runner maiden, you might need to spread the bets with multiple bookies. I think you are more likely to get a decent bet on in a bookies if they know your face rather than being anonymous.
