Dell Inspiron 1721 Laptop vista reinstall hassle

    Hi

I am trying to reinstall vista onto a Dell Inspiron 1721 after replacing both hard drives.
The initial install goes fine and the system comes up fine with no apparent resource issues. When i try to install the drivers from the dell resource cd a dos prompt launches and closes with an error saying

"program too big to fit in memory"

Is there any suggestions for how I could fix this issue. I have checked the task manager and there are no issues with resources. The physical memory is 2GB and the pagefile is set to be system managed

    thanks all

what i would do is remove one of the harddisks,

then boot the laptop from the vista dvd choose to do new install ie format the hard disk create new partition follow the vista setup etc...

when vista is installed install the second hardddisk.

    Hi

    thanks for the reply.

What would be your reasoning behind this plan of action?

    cheers

well in my own practice multiple drives is just a pain in the ass. Lots of issues in the past working out master and slave drives and trying to get them to play nice with eachother which is probably why I never looked into RAID. try it with one before you try it with both: you only need one to get vista online anyway.

i think the resource cd I got is crap. I went online and downloaded the latest drivers and everything is working fine now. Real pain in the ass from start to finish trying to get laptop working but got there in the end

    thanks all for your replies
