Just heard Brian Mc Coll on Friday night 80s. Sounds great. All the kellys replaced by Brian one wonders??

so in short.... gets the boot from 98 and ends up on national radio... not a bad outcome me thinks.... small bit of egg on 98 though??

I would say he is probably just doing a freelance gig for todayfm to fill in for phil cawley. did he get the boot from 98?

You may be interested to know that this is not the first time he did stuff with the national independent station. Way back in December 1997, Brian was with Radio Ireland for its last month before the name change to Today FM.
At the time he was using his previously famous moniker, Nails Mahoney.

Brian started with 98FM (as it used to be called) as Nails Mahoney. I believe it was around the time of the launch of Today FM. He did the breakfast gig for a while and I distinctly remember a voice-over saying something like "Nails Mahoney - what kind of a name is that?" I think this was the leadup to his own change of name. God! I just realised that all the entities and the party concerned have all got different names now!!

Sorry for digressing!... Anyway, see the beginning of this post again to keep it on topic.

Nice bit of info there Declan. In realtion to Brian's departure from 98, I think it was just that his contract was not renewed. He was well thought of by the previous PD. Anyway hope its a more permanent move. He sounded right at home the other night.

He definately made Friday night 80's his own ... sounded great.

He's filling in for Ray Foley today too ...

He's a very natural and intelligent sounding jock who, it seems, takes over any role very easily. One caller today on the Foley show said that he was "brilliant, - way better than that Foley fellah. Sure he's a pile o' sh!te" (before getting cut off).

I hope the real presenter gets moved back to nightime because McColl is pretty good once he never plays Estelle again.

Well said. A "jock" was replaced in this case by a "bloody good jock" who just luckily happened to be available that week. A bit of good fortune for Today FM that Brian was available for the week - but this is Foley's gig, - you won't see him being "moved back to nighttime" - he's just too damn popular where he is.

We're not really allowed discuss Mr. Foley here for a number of reasons, but I'll just say that I can't disagree more with you here. McColl is a seasoned veteran - a real pro. Foley is a "noob" by comparison and he knows it. I'm certain Foley would look up to him - actually, he says on his own blog about Brian,- "He’s a legend, and one of my favourite DJ’s, so be polite".

It'd be nice to hear McColl on radio more. I've been enjoying him this week.
