Dublin barn find

With all this talk of barn finds, I thought I would throw in another one. Myself and my Dad recently acquired an Austin 1300 GT which had been parked in a garage for 27 years. It is a 1974 GT with 54k miles on the clock. When we got it the suspension was completely down on the passenger side. This has since been pumped, but there is a problem with the rear displacer which is soon to be changed. After several months of trying we got the engine running, and it runs very smoothly. The bodywork is surprisingly good, there are a couple of small rust holes in doors, and some minor paint blemishes but nothing serious. I will take a few photos over the weekend and post them up if the rain ever stops

Here are a few photos I took between the showers earlier today. It is sitting a bit high at the back because there is a problem with the rear hydro displacer on the passenger side and it is jacked up

    Nice find.

Just out of curiosity, what is the expiry date on the tax disc in the window?

Love it! (and the period reflective plates ;))

Dustbin lid wheeltrims, vinyl roof. Just as quick as a bog-standard MGB and better round corners.

Having had a 1964 Austin 1100, apart from the amazing rusting abilities, they're a great practical classic.

What part of the city did it start of its life in? I can see that it was sold by Maxwells at some stage but it looks vaguely familiar - did it ever live in Terenure? My mother's 1100 was 8640 ZU and was also bought from Maxwells

    The tax disc is 1982

It came from Maxwells originally, and was a one owner car, mainly around the Killiney area

Thats brilliant, how was it stored in the intervening years?

It was sitting in a garage beside the owners house. I had heard about it around 20 years ago but never expected it to still be there.
The owner had parked it there with the intention of restoring it during his retirement. Unfortunately he died, and the car just sat there.
My Dad knew the owners wife, who mentioned about a year ago that she wanted to get rid of it, so rather than see it dumped/scrapped, I convinced him we should take it

And rightly so,if that was scrapped someone would have to die.....;)

What a great find. I love these cars and they're not that easy to find. Best of luck with it. Is it running?

I spotted this one at the Mosney show recently.

Yes, it is running, it took a while to get it started, but it runs very smoothly (for an a-series!)

I have seen that 1300GT up close and it is in excellent condition
