I bought one of these for my husband and he tried it out last night. He's very happy with it. He only wants a bike for going on local bike rides with our boys.

I was in Artane Castle earlier and saw them. They were boxed up with little or no details. I see the name/manufacturer/size is listed above. Is 22" small for a mountain bike? I'm sure mine was 26" when I bought it in 1987 :)

Picture attached after downloading pdf from reececycles.

Found it on some uk sites. 99 sterling. So 99 yoyos is a good price.

On their website, this bike is a 26" MTB, though then in sizes, the biggest is 22".

I'm presuming one size refers to wheels, the other to frame.

I WENT out to tesco dundrum. could not find any. is it everywhere?

Any left on the Northside? Clarehall/Finglas? Seems like a great price/deal.

22 inches would be quite large for a frame. Go for a smaller frame if the saddle can be adjusted to a suitable height for you. You can save some weight that way - I can't imagine this bike being particularly light anyway so... "every little helps".

Wow, can't believe that worked out.:D

Hmm could use one of these for college.

it's a very heavy bike. It's a pity it is only one size too.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,531 ✭✭✭patch

Smyths in Galway have a Jeep commanche with twin suspension for 110.
It says 22" but it seems a little smaller than the one on tesco.
The one in tesco didn't seem that heavy to me either.

2 left in Artane. Bought one, seems light enough, pre-assembly. None on display. Only 22 inch available. Will give my 2p once assembled + used.

Not to be a buzz kill but you seem to be comparing it to a cheap, full-suspension bike. These are often quite heavy compared to some of the lower cost decent bicycle brands.

If you're spending less than €250 the suspension (esp. full suspension) models will be make up of heavy components so would recommend ditching the suspension in favour of ones with higher quality, lighter components.

I'd suggest checking out http://www.chainreactioncycles.com/ if you're looking for a quality bicycle.

EDIT: had to check but, free delivery too:
Delivery of complete bicycles is FREE to any destination within the United Kingdom or Ireland.

After a quick glance heapest bike on that site http://www.chainreactioncycles.com/ seems to be 300 sterling. Has anyone who bouught and assembled the Tesco bike got any reports on it yet?

    Anyone seen them in Cork?

Similar issue, I noticed earlier on today that Dunnes on George's Street had a fair few Mountain Bikes for just under €90 I think. They were all in boxes and I was just passing through so I don't know any more.

i gave up trying to find one in tesco.

actually found a 26" advanced cobra city bike with 18 gears in Dunnes for 89.95.
not bad, i got one in rathmines dunnes, blanchardstown was sold out.

however it didnt come with any manuals, so im kindof building it on my own. bought 90 euros of stuff in halfords (hat, lock, lights, pump, pump connector, toolset box, mudguard)

looks nice, will update once i manage to get on it..... gonna take me time....

FYI, If you are buying a MTB, don't bother with front suspension unless you are paying more then €500, if you are getting full suspension, then don't bother unless your paying more then €1500.

On bikes less then above, the suspension is just a toy for show for kids, usually doesn't work and just adds lots of weight.

Instead get the lightest bike you can afford.

Prices start at £150 in the hardtail section. Most have front suspension (I guess people just want suspension no matter what the weight penalty). Never heard of the 'Viper' brand - have been out of the cycling loop for a while - but they have a 'GT' bike for £160. GT are a decent brand but definately not the lightest bike around (the weight is mostly in their mountain bike wheels/tyres). Check out the reviews.

Bought one of these yesterday, was a display model so already partially assembled but everything is pretty loose so haven't used it properly yet. Seems ok so far though, not that heavy and quality seems a bit better than I would have expected for the price even if it is very basic.

fnz you seem to be mixing up sterling and euro

a site i have used before is http://www.sterlinghouse.co.uk/

bikes from 50 or 60 sterling and 15 delivery, so less than 100 euro

or they always have a deal for 99 sterling - buy one get one free

Bump for this.. don't know if there's any of these left in the Sligo stores.

But which one do people reckon is better - the bike in Dunnes or Tesco?

Might pick one up this weekend.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 46,718 ✭✭✭✭muffler

Dont go to Teso in Letterkenny. They never had any bikes. Amazing.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 44,413 ✭✭✭✭Basq

I know I saw those bikes in the Sligo Dunnes last weekend.. but didn't check the Tesco for bikes.

    Will look this evening.

Was in Tescos Artane Castle on Thursday and they still had a few.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,531 ✭✭✭patch

Seem to be all gone in tesco galway.
I picked one up. Nice bike, silver and black colours look relly well.
Light alloy wheels and shimano gears.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 44,413 ✭✭✭✭Basq

They'd a display model of both the bike in Dunnes and Tesco in the Sligo stores - not sure if they'd any in stock as they only had display models out. I assume they were in the back and you'd to ask.

Thought the one in Tesco looked slightly cheaper than the one in Dunnes.. but hopefully people can give me some feedback.

QUOTE]Sorry to change subject a bit but it it a legal requirement to wear a helmet with a bike now and does it apply to all bikes like a high nelly for eg. I have a HN but think it would look funny wearing a helmet on a HN

i dont know about legal requirements, but with people on the roads these days, id rather wear it anyway.

Wearing a helmet is not legally required while riding a non-motor-propelled bike.
