Normally I would say this would be a super tight game to call but I just think Wexfords beating at the hands of Dublin will have a knock on effect. I hope Im wrong, would love to see them bounce back and Beat Down.

Yeah, id have to agree with that. Is Deeley match fit though

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,307 ✭✭✭cruiserweight

Deeley has had a very long lay off so I can't see him being match fit at the moment.

With regards to the knock on effect from the Dublin game, I don't see it being an issue. If there had been a week between the games then maybe, but the team have had two weeks with some training sessions and some club games. If anything I could see it spurring Wexford on.

If Wallace holds it tight at the back with help from the centre backs they should have the fire power upfront to have a real go, oh and keep that muppet Stafford off the bloody pitch.

Dan Gordon playing is a boost for Down. Think they will have too much for Wexford on Saturday. Turley from Downpatrick replaces the injured Cole - the former played really well when he came on against Laois. Down by 3.

So true. Did Down even win a breaking ball? They could go up for it uncontested and still come out without the ball! And Wexford had some shocking wides.

Great result for the Model men !! Dire match though, I think the quarter final will be as far as Wexford are going (would've taken that at the start of the year)

I can't believe that Down played that badly, they were truly shocking.

well Im delighted for Wexfoed. I really thought the could not come back from that Dublin game but fairplay to them. depening on who they gt I think they have every chance on making the semis now. I think if they can build on that win they are in with a great shout. Would love to see 2 Leinster teams make the Semi Finals

They are in with no shout, they were, and are, dreadful. Luckily for them, Down are worse, if thats possible.

So anyway, here's hoping Cork draw Wexford...

Wexford have every chance to get to semi's. Terrible game but Wexford are a better team than they showed today. Here's hoping for Galway

Jaysus that was a bad match! Not helped by naive tactics from the management.

Wexford will be hoping for Galway or Cork and both of them will be hoping they get Wexford!

Awful game. Fantastic result for Wexford. Great to see 'em doing so well. Not sure they can progress further but who knows.

Missed this game, but the result to me seems as if Down underestimated Wexford and expected them to be still hurting from Dublins hammering. Down have been impressive in patches this year. Being from Galway, I would like to us getting Wexford in the QF because I reckon Galway will have just too much for them. It wouldn't be a massacre on the same scale as Wexford and Dublin though.

Is it cork, galway or armagh that wexford can play or can they play some of the qualifier teams.

As far as I know, the provincial finalists are in one bowl of the draw and the qualifiers in the other.

I suppose you never know with Galway, anything could happen.

Considering Wexford's last two performances, I'd fancy both Armagh and Cork to take them with points to spare.

Agh well. Good to see that we are considered the weakest provincial champions in the quarter finals. No pressure then.

Just as good as seeing that we would be the preferred choice from the qualifiers ;) Out of the three possible choices the only one that I really don't want is Armagh

I'd like to see Armagh play the winner of the Kerry/Monaghan match tomorrow. Either of those options would be a cracker. So, Wexford can't get Dublin until the semis then?

That was a really poor match, today. Down's forwards' performance was the worst display all year. Only for their number 6, Aidan Carr, they would have been routed by a Wexford team who IMO are going to be the weakest team from the 4 qualifers. Although it also looks like we (Galway) are percieved as the weakest provincial champions.

Thats right, teams that have met in provincial finals cannot meet in the quarter finals. After that is fine, the pairings for the semi's are set so we will have a full picture tomorrow. I am hoping for Armagh v Tyrone and Dublin v Kerry/Monaghan. That leaves Cork, Galway, Wexford and Fermanagh/Kildare on the other side

That set up would get rid of two of the big hitters before the semis, I like it. I don't think anyone would look forward to playing Fermanagh either with their defence focused game.

Is it not Ulster V. Leinster and Munster V. Connacht in the Semis!

Yes it is, the winners of the Dublin and Armagh quarter finals play each other and the winners of the Cork and Galway quarter finals play each other

Yes, the winners out of the quarter-finals will play each other. It of course still leaves things a bit open for the pairings that we could get in them. First we have to get through two more qualifiers. The draw is then on at about 6:05pm on TV3.

As to yesterday, it wasn't a great match between Down and Wexford, but a good result, as said earlier. The heavy showers did have their impact on that match. Most notably when a Wexfordman slipped just before he was about to kick the ball into an open goal.

A group of us and other friends met up yesterday. While Cruiserweight had to leave early, the rest of us made a long evening of it. As usual, though the intent not to stay long is there, it happens. :)

Having also had a late night on Friday, or should I say early Saturday morning, there is a tired man typing in this post with another long day lying ahead.:) But, it another big day in Croke Park, and there is nowhere else I'd like to be on days like this. I can have a lie-in tomorrow morning. I'll need it. :)

Not so sure after that game. Don't think they would mind Kildare. Agree about Armagh. Galway, Cork and Armagh in that order would be my choice
