Downloading eMails with Outlook

When you open Outlook, it downloads any eMails that you haven't read. And it doesn't download eMails you have read. Is there a way to, how would you say, "download all", whether they have been read or not?? Just download whatever's in your webmail??

Can't speak for Outlook and I suppose it would also depend what webmail you are using, but Google Mail (gmail) allows you (in POP settings) to download all mail when accessing it through Windows Live mail. It's possible it allows it for Outlook too.

Had a look through outlook and couldn't find a setting for selecting to download only unread messages. Have you tried pressing F9?

    Who's your email provider?

When you connect to a POP server, Outlook downloads everything which it hasn't already downloaded.

if you use gmail you could go in ang select the option to enable pop for all mail
how ever , you'll most likely end up with duplicated emails !!!

Cleanest and easiest way is to create a new profile in outlook (set it up again)
and enable the afore mentioned option in gmail. Afterwards change that back to "for mail the arrives from now on"

Edit: ive just read you original post again, do you mean that of you read a mail through your web browser on gmail or yahoo or whatever that outlook will not down load that message?

POP3 usually is setup to delete messages once downloaded. IMAP is probably what you really want. Simply put, it just downloads the headers (from, subject, date etc.) and leaves the message on the server.

Take a look at this page http://www.web-1hosting.net/support/setup-outlook-pop3.html. The third last graphic has a 'leave a copy of messages on the server' checkbox which if checked should do the trick for you. However, imo it's not a good idea and your box could get trashed if you leave too much undeleted (something like that).

I would not be in favor of unchecking that box!!!!!
unchecking it will have no effect on the client side emails only the server side ones. if your pc dies then so do your emails along with it.

When you access your emails like this outlook stores them in a personal folder or .pst file. These can cause problems when they get very big and
become currupted but rarely have i seen a pst file under 2gb's thats caused a problem. and 2gb's is a hell of a lot of emails!!!!!!!!!

ok i don't think i've been quite clear here.

what i want to do is, basically, be able to download all the READ eMails from my webmail to outlook. So, when I read an eMail in work on webmail, when I then go home and turn on my PC and open outlook, it will still download that eMail, even though it has been read. as it stands outlook only downloads the UNREAD mails. I want it to just take everything, read or unread...

I suspect it's Eircom but with most webmail services if you log into the website to check mail then they're no longer on the POP server and won't be available to Outlook to download. No way around it for old mails except to forward them onto yourself and let Outlook download them. After that use Outlook exclusively to handle mail.
Gmail would be the exception the all that.

Outlook can connect to your mail server in a number of different ways. It would help if you specify who the provider of your email is, and the protocol used.

The protocol is typically one of:
POP3, IMAP4, Exchange MAPI, HTTP WEBDAV (hotmail), or a third party plugin for other servers (Mdaemon, Scalix, Novell and others).
In Outlook, click Tools, Email accounts, View or change email accounts; to find out which one your account uses.
