what do you lads think of this idea.

I was just thinking would it be a good idea to put an option our own profile pages whre the statistics are for what post we have made and what threads we have started, thanks we've got etc.

I know we have already got those options, but would an option for posts where i have been quoted be a good idea?

i think it would be very handy, say if you hav'nt logged on for 24 hours say and threads can go on and if you've given your 2 cents worth in a thread and you dont want to go sivving through it and if anyone has responded to your post you can look it up on the statistics part of your profile and if you had an option for post iv been quoted, you could get straight back to that part of the thread post and continue from there.

what do you lads think of that idea? It would make life a little easier.

You'd need something more than a count as to how many post have been quoted, otherwise the info would be useless. The display in your profile would have to be something along the lines of "Most Recently Quoted Posts" to be of any use.

Would be useful, I'll agree, but a pain to implement I'd say!

Also, I regard the difficulty factor of trawling though a thread to see if anyone has quoted you, as inversely proportional to the usefulness of that thread. ;)

thats generally what i meant. i think it would come in handy and a nice option. agreed it would be hard for relevant computer people to implement, but i have all faith in them!

Youd have to ask CulT but I dont think VBulletin is capable of that

I doubt the fact that the other user clicked on the quote button is stored in the properties of the message he/she creates. All you could do, IMO, is search for posts containing your username in the last 24 hours.

I don't always quote when replying to someone - it depends on the speed the thread is moving at.

Anyway, if the thread was interesting enough for you to post in, why wouldn't you want to read other posts in it?

I can see a possible use for this in megathreads but in general it would seem like a lot of work for little return.

Also, in a megathread (or any thread) - it doesn't take a lot to search for your own username and find if someone has quoted or mentioned you.

You could just get your Mammy to validate your opinions instead of counting the number of anonymous users who do it for you.

This is a nice idea. A fairly simple hack might do the trick - e.g. a custom search that simply looks for the text "Originally posted by <user>". Its rough, but it would save the need for a complex vBulletin hack. It could be run with a single click from the user CP.

I've never managed to search anything successfully. Any term I put in, no posts with that term come back and instead I get a list of ancient posts with no relevance whatsoever. Just thought I'd mention that while waiting for stevoman to get thick with me for being mean.

I don't know what's going on between yourself and stevoman, but take it elsewhere.

i dont think VB can do it, you'd really need a full time statto in boards.ie to do it!!

However, I have seen "quoted X times in x posts" on forums, presumably with different software.

What was the point of stating that in the thread?

Rich Text Editor. To edit a paragraph's style, hit tab to get to the paragraph menu. From there you will be able to pick one style. Nothing defaults to paragraph. An inline formatting menu will show up when you select text. Hit tab to get into that menu. Some elements, such as rich link embeds, images, loading indicators, and error messages may get inserted into the editor. You may navigate to these using the arrow keys inside of the editor and delete them with the delete or backspace key.
