Cheapest time to go is our summer as it's their winter. Conversly Christmas is the most expensive time as it's their summer.

New Zealand is cheap enough as it is, especially against the Euro. I suggest getting a car and staying in Motels if you wish to travel around the islands. If you go in summer then take a tent with you. There are some amazing camping spots.

When specifically looking for flights there earlier in the year for heading over in their winter I found that August was actually expensive then the prices almost halved from the last week of August on.

I got from Heathrow to Auckland via Singapore for about 600 euros last March. Fabulous airline as well, got to ride the new A380 and their inflight service/entertainment is spot on.

if you shop around, i'd imagine you could expect to pay on average, €1600. i've only ever done return flights (except at xmas, when i paid as much for my single flight as i had for my returns), but after a lot of shopping around i did manage to get a €1003 return flight last march, usually booking through SAYIT or USIT. be prepared to be flexible, and ask the travel agents their advice.

edit: if you want to book individual airlines, i find you can't go too far wrong with QANTAS.

My flights were about €1200'ish with AirNewZealand going via Hong Kong, was practically the same for going via LA instead but the baggage restrictions didn't suit me for going that direction.
