Iphone controlling AV

I'm in the middle of building my first house, I'm looking to do some nice AV setups, my main idea is small HTPC's in each room with a TV and network them all back to a central storage the allow control either with a HTPC remote or in the main living room with a touch screen monitor.

Now I have picked up an IPhone I have found it runs VNC, so I'm thinking I could control each HTPC using VNC on the Iphone?

    Opinions?

It certainly is possible - VNSea is available for pre-2.0 jailbroken iPhones and the iTunes app store has Mocha VNC Lite (free), Mocha VNC (not free) and Teleport (most expensive one) for 2.0 iPhones. It's not ideal though - you'll essentially be browsing the system's desktop directly and even at lower resolutions, it can be a bit of a pain to navigate on the iPhone itself.

If you use iTunes, Apple's Remote app for 2.0 is pretty cool, though this will only take care of the music playing side of things. If you're a Mac user, there's also the excellent Remote Buddy which can be configured to control just about any application and provides an AJAX remote that can be accessed via Safari on the iPhone/iPod Touch:

Unfortunately, I don't think something quite as good exists for Windows though I definitely could be wrong (dumped Windows a couple of years ago...)
