Well it looks like they have another "GREAT" SU pres this year as well. The graduation ball email i got today could NOT have been clearer
" Don't worry if you are abroad for the Summer, you can book your ticket using a credit / laser card over the phone. (Please note there is a 2.75% bank
charge on credit cards but not on laser). Alternatively you can go to Campus
AIB and ask them for a Graduation Ball lodgement slip and bring the stub
to the SU office to collect your tickets."
So do they mean when they say "alternatively" are they saying that that is the normal way for ppl in ireland to buy them?!!! tis great that you can only go to the DCU AIB cause nobody graduating doesnt live in dublin! Also which i laughed at
"The Burlington is offering a special room only rate of 130 Euro or 145 Euro
for B&B (Single) 160 Euro (Double)"
I went to the burlingtons website and got a double for two people for €160 for the graduation night. So i naturally assume you ring the burlington and say you want the SPECIAL dcu rate and they say great your from dcu so your used to being ripped off so we'll charge more. hilarious!

    oh also
"Please check life.dcu.ie for more information."
Just tried that and guess what its not working. Ah DCU............the memories

Well I can see what he was getting at, he just wasn't that clear unfortunately. There may indeed be people who live either in Dublin or close to DCU who wouldn't mind calling into the Campus AIB branch to get their tickets that way. Then again, I would imagine the majority would prefer to get them over the phone, it's nice that they're offering an option anyway.

Those Burlington prices do look awfully strange though, looking at their site at the moment too and I can't see how what they're offering is anything like a "discount". :o

Oh yeah when i said that i got a double for €160 i meant €150!!!!!!!!! hats right the dcu special is €10 dearer that anyone else. the same for single rooms 10-15euro cheaper on website. what a joke

Well i emailed the SU person about the "special prices" (didnt just bitch about it here) and here is what she said

    Hi Paul,

Thanks for your email. I will get on to The Burlington straight away and query this. I will get back to you as soon as I have a response from them.

Obviously they will have to do better than this.

    Apologies.

    Kind Regards

    Audrey Power
    Reception Supervisor
    DCU Students' Union

Looks like they might actually have someone decent in the SU this year.
    :D

here is the burlingtons responce to her asking for lower prices

    HI Audrey,

Just in relation to your request according to the bedrooms, I am afraid that we can't offer you any lower rate than agreed one. The rate €129 is the current special offer and is not available all the time, it's for the individual booking.
The quoted rates are guaranteed function rates for required number of bedrooms for the event dates.
Should you have any further questions, please fill free to contact us.
    Kind regards

    Anna Ziarkiewicz
    Events Coordinator
    +353 1 6643109

Seems ridiculous price anyway, i wont be staying there!

Of course I didn't get any email, mustn't care about postgraduates.

I'm going to stay in the Burlington. I booked on their website and got a triple room for 120 euro, which is 40 each, which I don't think is too bad.

The phone number is currently an answering machine too, great :)

Those group rates are the same for weddings, etc, and this happens every year, too!

The group rate is below the standard rate and is available to anyone that says they're booking for the grad ball, the lower rate you're finding online is for a limited number of rooms, after which it'll go up to a higher rate (and this would be higher than the group rate for the grad ball).

summary: book online if it's cheaper, but the online price will almost certainly go up above the group rate before the grad ball actually comes around

anyone actually got a ticket yet? i waiting for them to ring me back and its been over 24hrs!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 121 ✭✭DecentBee

Just ordered mine there, took them two days to call back. Had almost given up hope. Quite a few people I've spoken to had no idea tickets were on sale yet, seems either people didn't get the email or they're not very observant.

I dunno, I wouldnt put it past DCU... I mailed them on Sunday asking what the bill was. Damn lost book, I didnt lose one for like 3 years then in the midst of final year madness.. ah well.

No, I know of someone who had to pay a fine before grad. You're allowed (I think) up to €4 in debt but after that they with-hold your results and can refuse to let you graduate until you pay.
