Does anyone have any idea how golf clubs calculate the G.O.Y. (golfer of the year)? I do play in these events but just would like to know how the eventual winner is decided.

well in our club you get a point for meeting CSS and then a point for every shot you beat CSS, your points are added up each week.

I have 13 points this year so am near the top I think, usually 21-25 wins each year.

Cheers. Do you reckon that's the way it's done in most clubs?

Different per Club I'd say. Some base it on performance (score) in your best 12 or 13 comps. So 1st = 35 points, 2nd 30, 3rd 28.... 28th one point etc.

We have a sheet on the board listing from left to right the dates of each GOY competition. These are pretty much the Medals + Captains + Presidents prize and maybe the matchplay or other such comps.

Each prize in these comps has a number of GOY points attached to it. So 1st, 2nd and 3rd overall, the class prizes, best gross etc get an amount of points on a sliding scale from 20 for an outright win to 5 for 3rd in your class.

In clubs I've been in this is detailed in the club diary along with how to work out 3/4 handicaps for matchplays and things like that.
